Iron Man 2 Agent Coulson Returns, Kate Mara joins

Kate Mara and Clark Gregg have joined Marvel's "Iron Man 2," being directed by Jon Favreau and currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Mara's role is being kept under wraps.

Gregg is returning as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Gregg next appears in "(500) Days of Summer," being released July 17 by Fox Searchlight. Gregg, who stars opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus on CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine," directed and co-wrote "Choke." He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Mara has also joined Michael C. Hall, Sarah Silverman and Rainn Wilson in the indie ensemble comedy "Peep World," being directed by Barry Blaustein for Occupant Films. The movie shoots this spring.

Additionally, Mara, repped by WMA and Goodmanagement, booked a recurring stint on HBO's "Entourage," where she plays a potential love interest to Kevin Connolly's character.

Kate could be playing Bethany Cabe, another major character from the Iron Man universe, it's a longshot.
Cabe was at one time, head of Stark Industries security and love interest of Tony Stark, in a resent 1 shot issue called Iron Man: The End, in the future an aging Stark has married Bethany Cabe, so she is an important character in that mytho's.

And I don't see her playing a random reporter, or a SHIELD agent or anything of that matter otherwise they'd have brought back Bibb. Or maybe she is just a Justun Hammers assistant and a villain, that I could see.

Madam Masque is not out of the realm of possiblity, but she may go by her real name Whitney Frost and become Madam Masque at the end of the film, just a thought.

this was my first thought too. it would be WAY easier to just introduce janet and hank as shield scientists. makes sense. i doubt she actually is janet, but i like the thought.

I like Mara a lot, so I hope her part is bigger than what Bibb's was in the first one.

I doubt it will be, there are already a ton of characters who are going to have significant roles/screentime.... Stark, Potts, Rhodey, Hammer, Widow, Whiplash. I think it'll either be a throwaway part or an introduction for something in the future.

Why not announce who she'll be then? Wasp would be my favorite of the theories.

The same reason they didn't announce that SLJ was in the first one.... they like to keep the fanboys (and fangirls ) talking.

I'd like to think it'll be a set-up for something bigger in the future, like Cabe, Carter, or Wasp would be, but it could just as easily be something minor.
