Akira: The Series

That's really interesting news. I'm guessing it's no coincidence that it's happening alongside the live action adaptation.

That’s cool, I’ll give it a go. Really of course the epic action is amazing but we barely saw much of the world it developed. Plenty of opportunity to explore

Tell that to whoever wrote that title on the front page.

They even said at the panel that "It's not a sequel."

The implication or suggestion was is that there's a lot more story in the manga the original anime never covered and they are going to explore all that material in this new version.

Also, the press release called it a NEW AKIRA ANIME ADAPTATION.

I get the sense they are going to re-adapt the manga from scratch and tell if not the full unabridged story, a much fuller story than the anime feature.

Dang, every time I see the name Akira, for a moment I think I'm reading the name Alita...:(

I'm pretty excited for Taika Waititi's adaptation. Leaves me to wonder will he get to work on Akira after Jojo Rabbit, and then work on Thor: Love and Thunder?! I actually haven't watched the movie in years! And I have to admit, I've never read the Manga. I will be getting on this very soon though.

And speaking of Alita, I do hope the sequel will get made. Alita and the new Akira could usher in a new era of faithfully adapted live action Anime. Evangelion could be insane, but Pacific Rim has kinda gone down that path already.

He's not doing it anymore. It's dead.

From all I've seen so far online, Akira has been delayed seeing that Taika Waititi is working on Thor again first? I've seen nothing of him stating that he's no longer involved in the project though. Ah well, the wait continues. I shall not lost hope... ;)

Delayed is just as good as dead in Hollywood speak until Hollywood tries to get this off the ground again like it has many times before.
