Alex Proyas Reveals That He’s Developing a ‘Dark City’ Series!

During the chat, Proyas reveals that a Dark City series is in the works!

Dark City right now is really an intriguing one to me because we’re developing a series, a Dark City Series,” Proyas explains to Lynch.

He continues, “Which we’re in the very early stages [of] but I’m having to reanalyze in order to construct a new story. I’m having to go back and kind of jog my memory as to what we actually did and what I think worked and what I think didn’t work and reevaluate my own film, so that’s been a very interesting experience as well which I’ve not done before.”

I have to be honest, I have never watched Dark City. A friend told me a few years ago that it was a great film, and The Matrix basically ripped off of it.

If you haven't seen Dark City you should definitely check it out, especially if you love films like The Matrix. It's easily one of Alex Proyas's best films next to The Crow and a series makes perfect sense IMO.

I want to see a trailer before I get too excited though.

Oh yes. I’ve been heavily critical of Proyas’ more recent work, but Dark City is arguably his best film. I don’t think The Matrix really ripped it off; there are similarities in both concepts but enough differences that they both feel like their own thing. I’ve heard that the Wachowskis did take a lot of ideas from a comic book that came out in the 1990s though. I believe there was a lawsuit and a settlement.

Anyway, I would love to see this happen. If Sutherland comes back, hopefully that means Rufus Sewell and Jennifer Connelly will be back as well.
