Sci-Fi Dark City

Hmm, interesting. I wonder will the new cut be closer to the test-audience version. Someone sent his review of that cut last year to Joblo. He said it was much better than the theatrical and was very disappointed by it. He also said the he understand that so many people love the film, but that if we'd all seen the original rough cut we'd think differently of the TC.

I hope they release it on DVD/Blu-Ray someday. They released Blade Runner's rough cut on DVD, why not this?

Eh?

People forget Alex Proyas directed The Crow. He's good.

Eh?
[RobinWilliams]Sorry fo my bad English.[/RobinWilliams] Lemme rephrase that.

He said that the rough cut was much better than the theatrical cut and was very disappointed to the theatrical cut.

Do you put the "to" there? Or something else?

I believe you are looking for ".....with the theatrical cut"

Its an interesting flick but The Matrix beats it by miles!

Dark City (narrowly) beats The Matrix for me.

Both are in my Top 5 favorite science-fiction films. The latter in my Top 5 favorite action films.

Probably because the lead can...y'know...act. :hehe:

Although my vote goes to Dark City

Reeves wasnt that bad in Matrix. He plays naive pretty well. He was horrible in the rest of them though.

^ I agree Reeves was pretty good in The Matrix...the role suited in his charecter despite him not being a great actor (kind of like Shia Labuf in Transformers)...and the film didn't lack in acting cause there were other good supporting actors such as Lawrence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, Carrie Ann moss, etc

Despite Dark City being an awesome film I don't think it makes it my list of top 5 sci-fi films. My list goes as..

1. The Matrix
2. 2001
3. The day the earth stood still
4. Terminator 2
5. Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back

maybe, just maybe Dark City might make it on top 10...on a good day. But its still a good movie, I just think the cult following overrates it just a bit.

I don't forget. While The Crow is also fabulous, I thought Dark City was better.

Though I would like to forget his I, Robot movie :down

I wonder why they used the same font/logo as in the Batman Special Editions.

Dark City was way better than Matrix.

The DC DVD cover is very misleading. It seems to hae an entirely different tone from the movie

Maybe the DC has an entirely different tone? Afterall, it is completely recut and has new score and fx.

Yeah the cover doesn't carry the atmosphere of the movie. Looks like the cover of a terminator-like movie.

The Truman Show > Dark City > The Matrix

I wish that I saw The Truman Show the way it supposed to be watched. I saw it at different times and different parts and on TBS. I hate TBS. Anyways my view on Truman is somewhat lacking in comparison to Dark City.

Dark City holds a special place amongst my VHS collection. I love the movie.

But I hate the Director's Cut cover. Too bright.

Rufus Sewell for No.6 if Nolan gets The Prisoner underway.

Funnily enough, Proyas stated a few years back that if it ever came his way, he himself would be very interested in tackling The Prisoner as a feature film...

One wonders if he'd think of Sewell for the lead...(he just got a Tony nom, you know...)

Nice to see a thread on this -- Dark City is probably my favorite movie!

:word:

Anybody pick this up yet?
Id love to hear a review of this extra footage and cleand up fx.

Not yet, thinking of buying it. Do love the movie but wondering if 15 minutes is really worth it
