Alex Proyas to Direct Paradise Lost

I'm still waiting for the day DiCaprio finally decides to play an all out villain as opposed to a protagonist or anti-hero, just to see what he'd do.

I'm just waiting for the guy to do a comedy. I can't truly respect him as an actor until he's gotten a good laugh out of me. A real laugh, too. Not a What's Eating Gilbert Grape laugh. :o

Okay, that was crass. I apologize. :csad:

Him and Bale. American Psycho doesn't count. Take a cue from Jackman, who has played suave, badass, and goofball.

I thought Bale was funny in The Fighter.

Casey Affleck Cast As Gabriel
Variety report that The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and The Killer Inside Me star is set to join the cast of Paradise Lost as the angel Gabriel. The movie also stars Bradley Cooper (Lucifer) and Ben Walker (Michael) with Djimon Honsou as Abdie, the angel of death. The movie is described as a "heavenly epic" and will be directed by The Crow's Alex Proyas.

Paradise Lost, John Milton's epic poem about Lucifer's fall from grace and the corruption of Adam & Eve, is set to be released in the end of 2013. The movie is planned as an action epic focused on the war between Lucifer's forces and the angels led by Michael for control of Paradise, with many aerial battles, and will be filmed using the same motion-capture technology from Avatar, in addition to being rumored to be filmed in 3D.

Camilla Belle Choice For Eve In ‘Paradise Lost’

EXCLUSIVE: I hear that Camilla Belle is Legendary Entertainment and Alex Proyas’ choice for the lead role of Eve in Paradise Lost. She would join Bradley Cooper as Lucifer and Benjamin Walker, who plays the archangel Michael in the action epic battle between good and evil that is inspired by the John Milton poem. Belle starred in 10,000 B.C. and before that played Daniel Day-Lewis’ daughter in The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Let’s see if her deal works, but this is a role a lot of young actresses wanted. She sparks the war that began all wars for the future of mankind. Belle is repped by WME. Warner Bros is distributing and eyeing a fourth quarter 2013 release.

Variety is saying Diego Boneta is the front runner for Adam

Hmm this is shaping up to be quite the cast. I wonder who they're getting for God? Surely it can only be Morgan Freeman :awesome:

I don't even think he should have a voice. I think God should be treated as an unseen, unheard force that is felt - a force of nature if you will that you can see and feel his influence throughout the story, but is not a "character" in the traditional sense. Anything else, IMO would cheapen it.

Like in Prince of Egypt, huh?

Wait for him to win an Oscar. A good number of actors seem to pick a comedy, horror or action film after they've locked that award. It's like they've made it and it's time to take a break and have a little fun.

I like Belle, but Eve is supposed to be a blonde, and even though you can colour Belle's hair, she has such a strong brunette look to her, she may look weird as a blonde. That's of course if they even make her blonde like the book, they may not.

I heard somewhere that they were gonna do this moving using motion capture - is that true?

I love this idea. Does God speak at any time in the story?

A friend of mine knows a guy who's working on the deisng of the film. He's been given the task of designing the angels. He said studio executives in the U.S. want the look of the film to be very over the top, he said his angel designs look very "gay" [he's gay himself], in the sense that they are "beautiful half naked shiny male" type of designs, lots of Gold and shimmer. No idea if that will change at any point, but so far he said they are wanting a very rich and pretty look for the angels. Expected really, i pictured them looking that way when reading the book.

Yeah. He has quite a few speeches if I remember correctly.

I agree that God should never been seen, as most physical representations of God in Art tend to be unsatisfying, losing his/her mysteriousness and majesty in the process. Whether you believe in it or not, God works better as a character when you allow your own imagination to create his appearance. I like the idea of him being "a force of nature" as that is pretty much near my vision of what God "is." He should definitely have a voice though, since he's a major part of the story and its integral to the story that he interacts with the other characters.

Yes, unseen would be a good way for them to go with God. As a presence only, similar to Sauron in LOTR.

Not sure I like that idea. Something about angels in Heaven being decked out in material, earthly riches (gold, silver, jewels, armor) always strikes me as being odd and, in my opinion, inaccurate.

Whenever I picture angels, I always imagine them being completely nude, or clad in modest cloth. Though I guess that wouldn't be considering "visually striking."

I don't think he meant jewels per se, however if they are armoured angels, i imagine Gold would be the colour of choice. I think he simply means half naked, very statue-esque and with an other wordly shimmer to them or something. Kind of like something out of IMMORTALS, but a bit more "angelic" looking. At least that's how i pictured it.

Kind of like this....

I'm very interested in this. It seems to have all the ingredients for a good movie.

Not entirely, around 70 percent of it will be computer generated however. Probably along the same lines as Avatar.

Camilla Belle is a good actress whenever her role doesn't require her to speak.

In what still feels like a horribly ill-advised attempt to adapt John Milton’s Paradise Lost, the film’s cast continues to add archangels. Bradley Cooper is set to play Lucifer, the archangel who rebels against God and begins a war in Heaven. Prior casting for the archangels includes Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) as Michael, Djimon Hounsou as Abdiel (The Angel of Death), and Casey Affleck as Gabriel. Now Variety reports that Callan McAuliffe (I Am Number Four) has joined their ranks as the archangel Uriel. Michael commands the army in Heavy and Uriel is his second-in-command. Variety also reports that Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages) is being considered to play Adam.

The big-budget film, which will reportedly “feature eye-popping aerial warfare that may be shot in 3D” is set for release in late 2013. McAuliffe is also co-starring in The Great Gatsby as a young Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio).
