Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

Another rumour is that they reverse engineer BC's DNA and make the eggs that way. Or we could be getting a queen from an alien that hatched on the station.

I hope they don't use stuff like this. It literally makes no sense. The original movie worked so well for a reason.

From the novels it states that a Drone can become a Queen if no other Queen is present...that makes way more sense and fits in line with the "bug" parallels.

My biggest hurdle with the introduction of the queen was always that it made the race feel less scary overall. Like if that's their only way of increasing their numbers then a "1 out of 100 royal facehugger" or whatever would be a pretty slow way of making that happen. Eggmorphing or introducing another method where any drone can create more eggs (or facehuggers) makes them a lot scarier again.

I personally never thought having a Queen made the Xenos any less scary. Then again, the comics, books, and video games made the Queen seem like this mythical cosmic terror that you never wanted to come face to face with and I consumed all that stuff lol

I guess I was thinking about it more from when they present the Xeno as "if this thing gets to earth we are all doomed". Unless it's a queen, not really? Sure a xeno would take out some people but unless a queen ended up on earth they'd have no actual chance to take over right?

Yep, I love the queen concept personally. It's how the Xeno's would dominate and take over worlds and adds to their danger in that regard.

Though I love Aliens and I enjoy the Queen as a final boss-type enemy, I would agree that Cameron making the Xenos more overtly analagous to insects made them a little less...not less scary per se, but just the tiniest bit less interesting.

It's a double edged sword. The Queen herself is a fantastic creation and when you see the reveal of her in Aliens you're still in awe almost 40 years later at how good she looks. But I do agree that making the race like insects with a hierarchy does take away something. I know the comics or books also has something like a King which I'm not sure how it plays into things but I saw a picture once that looked pretty cool.

Sorry for double posting, but I've been thinking about the potential story of Romulus and the motivation behind our characters ending up at the station. Curious what you guys think as well.

I feel like the most likely scenario is that they are sent there on orders from above and as usual details are kept vague but whoever sends the characters there know about the xenomorph and want to get a sample. Could be Weyland-Yutani or a rivalling company, I feel like these movies are almost made on the agreement that you shove in as many connections as you can to established lore so it feels like a safe bet. Most of the films deal with the greed of the corporation and the arrogance of mankind to think they are above the xenomorphs and the death that comes from it backfiring.

A second scenario that I would love personally, but I'm not getting the vibe from the trailer that they are doing is that it would be refreshing if our characters ended up at the station from an act of desperation. Say they have been out on a mission, something went wrong, they are on the way back but low on supplies or something. They come across a seemingly abandoned station and you have the dilemma of "if we stop here we have no idea what's waiting for us but also we desperately need supplies or we wont make it anywhere". For me that would be more interesting of a hook than just "We were sent here because orders and also we follow them".

Who knew that Paul W.S. Anderson's Alien Vs Predator would be an influence lol

Sorry if this has been said but the trailer does look cool. They may get the feeling of dread back to the series. My only thing is that it may have too many references to the past movies. The blue mist, the tracker beeps, the brown shirted shaved head girl, the twisting automatic doors, running in the halls, fighting the alien in the water. Maybe I’m knit picking but I just hope it isn’t a lazily written movie.

Decided to track down a Blu ray copy of Alien 3. Anybody know why it's so expensive? $30 is a lot for that, but I wanted to finish my collection. Debating on grabbing the AVP films, but I don't like either of those.

You're better off getting the excellent Alien Anthology Blu-Ray set on Amazon.

If you are trying to get it separately it'll cost you more.

I'm still waiting on them to release the quad set on 4K.
I own Alien and Aliens in 4k, and never ended up getting the full blu ray box set, but I did want to own 3 and Resurrection. Ressurection was cheap, but I found 3 for like $25. I feel like we aren't getting a transfer for that any time soon.

The xenomorphs being bugs was one of those influences Cameron took from Starship Troopers.

Scott had Dallas morph into a egg in his alien life cycle original plans.
