Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

This sounds about on par reviews wise with Alvarez's previous movies. But I really enjoyed ED and Don't Breathe a lot.

I'm really excited to see this in 3 days. My only apprehension with some of those early reviews is that the negativity kinda seeps through in some of the wording of them. It's very easy to say "The best one since Aliens" because some people discard the rest in the trash bin (personally I find things to like in most of them) and also Alien/Aliens are considered classics so nobody expect a new movie to hit that level. So simply saying "the best one since Aliens" feels like a statement that doesn't really say much at all about how good Romulus actually is. Because if you're one of those who thinks there hasn't been a good movie since Aliens then that might be very faint praise. :p
Considering how people didn't like Prometheus and Alien Covenant (the latter especially), this is a massive step-up by goin back to basics.

Interesting how a lot of reviewers mention the third act, some love it, and some took them out of the movie.

Sounding like it's a solid entry in the franchise and that's all I'm wanting at this point. Looking forward to finding out for myself.

It sounds like the ending is really divisive, but it should be interesting at the very least.

About 24 hours to go for my screening. Just watched Prometheus in anticipation of it, and I have to say, this was the first time I've liked it. It's solid sci-fi. It doesn't feel much at all like the earlier Alien films, but it's not an issue to me anymore, it can stand on its own two feet. The visuals have aged wonderfully; it doesn't look like a film from 12 years ago. Great cast, too.

I've always liked Prometheus, such a shame Covenant botched everything it set up. And can't believe we never got to see The Deacon again.

But yeah I will be including Prometheus on my re-watch before Romulus.

I'm watching Covenant in about an hour. I've seen it only once, and I liked it more than Prometheus back then, but that might not be the case with my new pro-Prometheus agenda. Covenant wasn't all that memorable, though, I mostly remember the gore and all the David/Walter stuff.

Covenant is by far the worst Alien film. I borderline can't stand it.

Here's my current ranking of all of them. Given Fedes track record, I definitely think Romulus will be in the top 3 by this thursday.

Your ranking reminds me that I need to do a rewatch of AVP 2004.

Haven't seen it in ages, hope it's on Disney+.

I never saw the AVP movies. Should I?

I only watched the first AvP and that was almost 20 years ago. I don't remember hating it, just being really disappointed that it was PG-13. I know an unrated cut came out some time after but I don't know if it was an improvement.
