I must say the transformations that the ILM people worked on couldn't have made this movie what it is.

They worked really hard and long hours to get everything right.

Do you think the special effects team deserves some awards for this feat? I think they deserve some appreciation from the Academy!

They worked 30 hours on one transformation and that's what took up a bulk of the budget, I'm sure. That beat WETA's special effects time, which is interesting because the Ents sure took a lot of special effects and time to put those together.

Also, another team that deserves recognition is the sound effects team. I'm sure it was very difficult to get the sounds to match up to what you saw on screen.

Thoughts?

It's going to be POTC3 and Transformers for the special effects ocsar next time out.

I prefer the TF effects, but the POTC effects were good also, though i didn't like the movie as a whole (POTC3 not TF).

TF has to win something for the effects.

Yup. I agree Dr. Lee.

I'm not sure of any other contenders as of yet.

Harry Potter...umm...what else has been out besides Transformers? :oldrazz:

Potter might be another, maybe Spiderman....

IMO the TF effects were the best this year by some way, i remember 4-5 scenes in POTC 3 that I immediatly regocnised as CGI, were in TF i can currently only remember one.

^Its when Bumblebee knocks Barricade over when BB is still in car form, after BB picks up Sam and Mikaela, Barricade runs and after them and then changes mid-run, it was the only OBVIOUS CGI moment in the movie for me.

You can see it on Youtube if you type in Bumbebee vs Barricade.

I did not even notice. The CGI was so crisp it was like the Autobots and Decepticons were real.

It's even more amazing on IMAX screen. :trans:

The daytime battle under the overpass.... That shots always been a bit off for me as well.

Whats the best bit of CGI for everyone here?

Me?...... Bumblebee being released from the railway cart inside S7 base.

Yeah, that's a great scene...but for me, I believe it's the scene in the alley when Optimus introduces himself and his comrades.

Crap, there's a lot, but I can't think of 'em all right now. :hyper:

That was flawless in IMAX. I think must be the small screen.Unless they fixed it in IMAX,which I doubt, but it's hardly noticeable though.

Yeah I have a good feeling they will win. If Potter wins that will be one of the biggest WTF's ever! There was nothing special or new with any of those effects not to mention Pirates as well. ILM really pushed the boundaries to come up with the transforming effects in this movie.

the problem with TF is that there will be like 1000 GIF'.s there are to much money shots.

ohhh whait a minute. is this a bad thing?

ILM as always makes groundbreaking effect.s why? because of the right budget and because of the director. ILM and weta need a director that pushes the CGI guys. they need a director that wants groundbreaking effects. singer is not that kind of director.

Thats the ONE!

As for best, I honestly couldnt say, though Prime building surfing after catching Sam is a big contender, as well as his arrival and transformation into the final battle :woot: .

Oh right, I noticed it was a bit off both times in the cinema, we dont have IMAX here so i wouldnt know. But that was literally the ONLY off part in the movie IMO.

Yeah, TF is definitely going into the preliminaries at the Oscars AT LEAST. They'll most likely be nominated in every single SFX-related category. Perhaps even in some of the sound mixing and editing preliminaries.

That first one is a great contender.

I also think one of the best CGI scenes is Megatron running through Sector 7, screaming "I AM MEGATRON!"

That was seamless I thought.

and then again, there's too many to name. Bumblebee transforming back into the Camaro after he fought Barricade....too many to name.

what i like about ILM and weta is that they are not afraid of daylight.
at night and dark scenes it is easier to make CGI because you dont see so much details. plus faking the sun was always hard. so i am happy that ILM did their best with the final battle that was at daytime in teh city.
plus lets not forget the 100% CGI davy jones that was a lot of times i nthe movie at daytime.

Beautiful, beautiful shot. "You got any more questions?" That part sent shivers down my spine every time I saw it. The animation is so amazingly fluid. That's one of my favorite film moments from this summer, for sure.

I did like Starscream's battle with the F-22's. "Hot that guy" is another line I really liked. I wish that part had gone on longer, really. Maybe next time, eh?

Whoever did the soundwork for Bumblebee's voice should get an award. I love that they used a clip from "Explorers". I didn't think anyone knew about that movie anymore. It was mixed extremely well, it's too bad he got his voice back.

Speaking of which... who was it that said "You talk now?" at the end of the film. It always sounds like Jazz, but that's pretty much impossible. I can't figure it out.

I agree, the effects were seamless, you literally couldnt tell what was real and what wasnt, but there a few parts like that in the movie.

I had the same reaction you did when he asked if there were anymore questions and swung the door out.

Freakin' incredible! Thank you ILM!

If I had the talents, I would certainly work with them...one can wish, right?

ILM is awesome. I was actually privlidged enough to meet them last year. One of the best days of my life.

That is a very good point, and perhaps the reason why I admire their work so much.

and the ones, you're so lucky!

Just remembered another candidate for best CGI in the movie, when Optimus introduces Bumblebee to Sam and BB starts shadow boxing, I thought that looked SO real.

a nitpick would be that he is heavy. but when he was jumping it looked like he is light.
but TF was not like BB or SR or the hulk. it wass a fun movie. it wasnt trying to be very realistic when it comes to G.
but the scene looked very good.

i was also suprised at the amount of detail in the retroscoping department. mega details.
