The heat must have temporarily shut down the ideas factory. Can anyone say more bloody sequels?!
Basic Instinct 3
Seems there is someone not surprisingly, its not someone who paid money to see the last one - out there who wants to see a Basic Instinct 3 : Sharon Stone.
The ageing screen goddess, who recently reprised her role as Ice-pick touting Catherine Trammel in the enormous turdfest of a sequel Basic Instinct 2, hasnt agreed to headline a second sequel though. But wait. Stone has, however, announced her intentions to direct (!) the film. (Just when you thought it couldnt get any worse, hey?)
Defamer quotes the disreputably wild Hollywoodite as saying "There's a script for the next part of the story - but I would like to direct it rather than star in it. It will be filmed in the UK again as the setting is more intense and gritty.
Stone had said previously that she thought Basic Instinct 2 co-star David Morrissey should headline the new movie. Hopefully, the studio doesnt share her vision.
Into the Blue 2
Shes indubitably been asked, but dont expect Jessica Alba nor her bikini, lamentably to return for the sequel to last years Into the Blue.
Yep, MGM have announced a sequel to the mildly-successful John Stockwell directed actioner about a group of scuba diving friends who have an unfortunate run in with nasty treasure hunters but as its simply a DVD sequel, you can pretty much rule out any names though it shouldnt take much to get Scott Caan or Ashley Scott back? - from partaking in a return visit to those calm blue waters. Casting to begin shortly.
Friends Reunion
This comes from a nice high-up source, so there could be something to this baby. Waxing lyrical with a decision-making pal at Warner last week actually not far from the old Friends stage - I was told that there are early talks between the cast of TV hit Friends, and the network, to do a telemovie (just one, at this stage). The idea has apparently been on the cards for a while, but some of the cast - Matt LeBlanc apparently turned down the telefilm a few months back, wanting a chance to first prove himself as a solo star (with Joey), but now that his spin-off has been canned, hes apparently keen just wouldnt agree to it. Things have changed though, he says, and suddenly, theres interest. Who knows if it will come off, but it might give Central Perk regulars a nice double-shot of hope.
The Glass House 2
Cinematical reports that the upcoming direct-to-DVD release The Good Mother, starring Angie Harmon, has now become The Glass House 2. It essentially has nothing in common with the Diane Lane thriller from a few years back, but marketers believe itll have a longer shelf life its [or is passed off as] a sequel.
The Wicker Man 2
Talking to our friends at Bloody Disgusting, Neil LaBute, helmer of the upcoming Wicker Man remake, mentioned the possibility of a sequel. There are certain things that Ive done to the movie that allow for the possibility of, you can always go back to that island outside... everyones still there so you could revisit the thing. But its something that plays really well one time because its built so much around this uniform trick that everyone has been working against him. When you know that, youve got to create a very different film for a second film I dont know that Id want to revisit it myself because it works in a great sense of one of these short stories like The Lottery and it feels like the story is told to me.
Shaun of the Dead 2
Forgot to mention. At the Hot Fuzz panel last weekend, Edgar Wright mentioned that youll probably never as disappointing as it may be see a sequel to Shaun of the Dead. Wright doesnt see a need for a sequel, and essentially confirmed that he doesnt want to be involved in any follow-up.
Superman II
A tasty bit of news from the Warner compound on the just-announced Superman sequel. Apparently the character of General Zod will be a major focus of the new film, and like he did with the main role, Singer isnt ruling out casting an unknown in the role. The studio apparently likes Jude Law for the role previously played by Terence Stamp in the earlier films but some are suggesting finding a fresh face to play the villainous part. Told that Kevin Spaceys Lex Luthor is supposed to return for the film, but they havent worked out for how much of the film hell be around for, which makes me think they might be bringing in a new big bad to proceedings. Any guesses?
The Descent 2
Neil Marshall, helmer of the new horror pic The Descent (I hate the poster design! It totally misrepresents the film), told Bloody Disgusting that hes already writing a sequel. "A treatment is in the works, Im not directing it, but I will oversee it and want to be a part of it. We have no directors or cast in mind yet, we just got our first draft yesterday. I set some strict rules about what I want it to be and I dont want it to be a rehashing of the first. Based on the reaction of people is that we struck a nerve with the claustrophobia scene, a lot of people say that scene is the one that stuck. The monsters they can deal with, and a bit of the claustrophobia, they can deal with, but the combination is definitely something we want to incorporate that into the sequel, by putting the monster AND the girls in a really tight spot."
Scream 4
Things have apparently cooled on the Scream 4 front. Courteney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette are apparently still attached, but with Arquette busy with his own films, like The Tripper, and Cox getting some good roles again, its been left to simmer a little longer, says a source. Another reason for the delay is the script, there isnt one. Theres only a treatment. Until they know who is going to return for the movie too for instance, Neve Campbell is still undecided they probably wont begin on a script [either]. The Weinstein Co is apparently super keen to do another one though, so it will happen just not for a while yet.
Oh what a joyious world me live in. more unneeded sequels.
