Animation All You Need is Kill Anime film

This looks pretty dope. Very unique artstyle, too. Surprised they didn’t go with the manga’s art style, but I’m open to different takes.

And it looks like it revolves around Rita (a version of her character was played by Emily Blunt in the live-action adaptation) this time around, so it’s going to act as sort of a parallel story/prequel to the original story where we finally get to see her perspective and how she got the reputation she did. Even better.

In contrast to the Hollywood film following Cage’s perspective (the romanized version of Keiji’s name), All You Need Is Kill‘s anime film adaptation aims to retell its story from Rita’s point of view. According to the film’s press release, All You Need Is Kill will explore Rita’s inner journey as a warrior and dive into her struggles with loneliness and personal growth.

I... ****ing love that they (indirectly) expand the franchise like this.

Another adaptation of the book, but this time Japanese, an anime ... And telling the parallel story of the book. Awesome!

(I LOVE Edge of Tomorrow, by the way)

This is a pleasant surprise. Really loving the designs and the animation. Very cool and imaginative and a great way to differentiate it from the movie/manga.

Another synopsis from the Warner Bros Japan YouTube page:

After an unidentified plant from outer space invasion, Rita finds herself trapped in a time loop, forced to relive the same day over and over again. With each loop, she learns. She fights. Her memories and experiences sharpen her skills, turning her into a formidable warrior. Yet, the endless cycle of death and solitude begins to wear her down. Then, she meets Keiji. “I’ve been repeating this day too,” he says. Two lost souls, trapped in an endless war. Could their meeting change fate?

Sounds rad. I remember watching Edge of Tomorrow and really liking it but thinking, “They should have just made Emily Blunt the main character instead” so I’m glad this is happening.

Really liking this the more I see of it. Seems like there’s going to be some slight slice of life elements in the story, which is interesting as in some of the stuff I read about it wasn’t in the original novel, so I wonder how that’s going to be handled.

Digging the look of the suits, too. They kinda have this simple, retro futuristic aesthetic to them. And giving the legs hock-like joints like a mammal’s hind legs for greater mobility and speed actually makes a lot of sense for the threat they’re facing off against.
