Yeah, I just don't see this doing well. They've made Helm Hammerhand's daughter the hero of the story, which is not what Tolkien wrote.

Usually these type of anime features go to Netflix or get released straight to video. I just don't see it doing well in a theatrical release. This isn't a Shounen Jump type of story that attracts the youth who go crazy for anime.

Looks cool but the fact that they opened the trailer with footage from The Two Towers means even they know the audience for this is very niche.

Also this is a nitpick but Helm's daughter's battle outfit looks weirdly similar to this:



Not that it looks bad but just feels out of place in Middle Earth.

The still shots look amazing but I hate how choppy it looks. I'm rewatching Trigun and it SO much smoother, I don't get it.

That is indeed an anime movie.

The studio is Sola Entertainment, who seems to do more CG project than more traditional animation. That said, it does look like they are doing some great animation work. Some of the choppiness seems to be from direction, rather an animation thing. I do think there is going to be some heavy criticisms on the designs of the men vs the women, specifically the faces. There is a bit of a style discrepency that is not great.

I don't see it doing a Minus One, or even a Demon Slayer in terms of box office here. I will be curious to see how it does in Japan and Central America.

It honestly feels more like an Amazon Prime Original...so i get that vibe. Its clear that they're trying to go for a LOTR meets Nausica vibe and I don't think that will generate much theater tickets. Streaming numbers sure but im with you.

I am always on the lookout for animes that aren't just set in Japan. I have drunk from that well so much. It is nice to have something different. Like Vinland saga was a really good anime set in the world of Vikings. Also Record of the Lodoss War is right up their with lotr fantasy setting.

I would like to see all the cool battles you only read about in the books. So I am interested to see where this goes.
