Am I the only one who would like to see more alternate history movies. Like a movie about the axis powers winning the war, america and russia nuking each other during the 80's, or the native americans defeating the europeans(I know very unlikely). Spike Lee was supposed to be making a movie about the confederate states winning the war, but it seems to have fallen through. What do you guys think.

 so...this isn't that movie?

I saw the trailer. Looks interesting, but makes no historical sense. First off, had the Confederacy won, they would have simply suceeded from the union and would have become their own country. They wouldn't have taken over. Second, had they won, slavery would have still died out long ago, as it is very bad for any economy and is vastly more expensive than simply paying wages. Third, it's doubtful that we would have allied ourselves with Hitler had the unlikely scenarios of the confederacy taking over and slavery still being around happened. He was commiting genocide. There's racism, and then there's racism.

No this isnt it. If you followed the link you would have seen that the director of that film is Kevin Willmot.

And if you follow the second link, it says "Spike Lee presents." Aparantly, Spike Lee is the producer.

I like alternate history stories, it'd be great to see a few more movies like that. Are there any movies that deal with "What if Hitler won the war?" I know that story gets done pretty much in every medium over and over again. I can't think of any movies off the top of my head though.

There was a made-for-cable movie called Fatherland that I'm told is okay. I'm sure it's on DVD somewhere.

I rented that from Blockbuster once. Yeah, it was ok.

ALternate history stories are always pretty cool. When i first heard they were making X-Men movies I thought they should make them about the X-Men alternate universe with the characters Bishop and Cable included.

The problem's with alternate universe movies are:
A.) Difficult to write
B.) Difficult to read=Difficult to sell
C.) They confuse a lot of people

I think one of the better alternate universe movies has to be 'The Butterfly Effect'

Aparantly, he opted to simply produce, as he is producing this film about the same thing. Of course, I kind of wished he had written and directed this. It looks, as it stands, to be a complete turd. And very historically inacurate. Had the confederacy won, they simply would have been their own country. They wouldn't have taken over. And there's no way that slavery would have survived the great depression, and would have already been on it's death bed starting with the Industrial Revolution.

You know, I always find these stories rather inaccurate as the writers take too many liberties.

I mean, even if the South won the war, they simply would have seceded. They would've never had the capability to conquer or occupy the North. Slavery would've destroyed itself, etc

There's a fantastic book by Phillp K. Dick called Man in the High Castle. It is about an alternate world where the Nazi's won WWII. But the defining moment is the novel within the novel, called The Grasshopper Lies Heavy which is an alternate history where the Nazi's lost the war. Only Phillip K. Dick could come up with such a slick hook.

The Philadelphia Experiment 2

I beleive the plot is that they're trying out the stealth tech again, only this time, the protagonist gets stranded not in the past, but in an alternate Earth where the Nazi's won and America was basically a warzone with guerilla's battling against the Nazi occupants.

They all still spoke English though.

I remember my impression overall being that of vague disappointment.

Ingenious, I'm going to look for it now. :o

Would The Final Countdown be an alternate history movie? I fell asleep before the end, so I never found out if they changed history or not. :(
