Alternative Models

[The Question]

When you are born into a system, or spend most of your life within a system, it's natural to see that system as being in some way inevitable. For many Americans, a republic with democratically elected representatives and administrators and a capitalist free market feels like the natural way for a society to function. However, I'd venture a guess that more than a few citizens of the former Soviet Union had the opposite opinion. There was a time when absolute monarchies felt like common sense, and democracy was a radical flight of fancy. Unions used to be unthinkable, and now they are generally accepted as a fact of the modern business world wether you like them or not.

What is considered to be obvious may not be to outsiders, what we take for granted as necessities and fundamental qualities of any given system may easily be looked at through the eyes of history as bad ideas that went unchallenged for a long time, and radical notions about upending the status quo as we know it might be a lot more reasonable than we think.

So, with that said, what are some alternative models that you think would work better than the current default? Wether it pertains to business, politics, or something else entirely, what are some ways for people to organize themselves and their resources towards a particular end that go against conventional wisdom, but that you think might actually be a better alternative?

This somewhat pertains to how I feel about religion. Many people I have grown up with, including my own parents, think that everything "good" about humanity can only stem from a relationship with God, because humans are inherently "evil." But I think many of us would agree that this is far too simplistic of a breakdown, and you can look outside the box of religion to have a fulfilling life.

While I was but a young man I thought Anarchy was the way to go. Upon getting older and having some time under my belt I see the folly of my youth. I think it would be an interesting thing to see in America if the common man had as much power as the top 1%. That would certainly interest me on how that would shake out.

It would still be a ****** world. People who have power suck.
