AMC's Halt & Catch Fire

I think Joe did it to spite the rich old lady. Joe seems like a guy to hold vendettas. Joe seems to be driven by a mixture of zealous ambition, trying to prove something to someone, some inner demons/haunted past and revenge.

Does anyone else just want Cameron, Gordon and Donna to work together because clearly they could solve each others problems. I'm sure Gordon and Donna could work together without IBM finding out.

Joe is calculating and extreme. He's willing to bone another dude to blow up a deal that he thought would ruin the project. Pretty hardcore.

What was so boring?

That's a hard question to answer. It's like "what parts did you forget?"

It just failed to grip me. I found the one sleezy guy far more annoying than intriguing, and the "You can't follow your dreams; you have a family!" trope got old real quick.

It wasn't deliberate. My attention just drifted elsewhere.

I guess if you're not interested in the universe or have no patience whatsoever, then it must be boring.

It's true. I have absolutely not interest in the universe or anything in it. I spend my days just staring at a wall.

But even though I never have any interest in anything, I quickly lose interest because I'm so impatient. I don't know why the wall won't just fall down or something already. It's pissing me off.

The last about 10 mins was pretty crazy

[BLACKOUT] i mean the boss ordering Joe to get beaten just to get him to back off?[/BLACKOUT]

I am loving how the show is slowly growing. I find it so compelling & entertaining, love Joe, Cameron, Gordon & Donna, the fired neighbor is also fun.

How are the ratings for this and is it looking like its going to be cancelled? Im hesitant to start it if its not goiny to continue.

Last I heard the ratings were low. We won't know if it's being cancelled until after all the episodes air.

I hope AMC gives it a chance to grow. It's really interesting.

AMC doesnt have that many shows and Mad Men is ending, I hope they look at this.

Breaking Bad took a while to catch on. I think the ratings were not that great when that show first aired.

Sometimes it takes a show a while to get an audience. I think they will air the whole show and see if there is a significant amount of buzz to greenlight another season.

Yeah, they need to give this a shot. Turn just got renewed yesterday and it was said to be cancelled for sure, AMC in their statement say it had like 2 million viewers a week, Halt & Catch Fire L+3 ratings were much better, so I'm thinking there's hope there.

@chamber: Both BB & Mad Men had low ratings but that was back when AMC was pretty much starting up.

I cant think of any show thaat had their best ratings or reception in their very 1st season. Youve got to give things time to grow

Yeah but the problem is, nowadays, so many networks just kill shows straight away, some shows don't even get to two or three episodes before being cancelled. And there are plenty of people who'll just give up on the show or won't even bother with it knowing that the ratings are low and it has a shot at being cancelled, so why invest time in it?

I personally love the show and will never give it up, but some just don't have the motivation & will bail easily.

Nielsen ratings are overrated, some executives need to understand that a lot of people DVR stuff (some shows get huge bumps on L+7), a lot of people watch online on platforms, etc, etc.

NBC has got to be the worst offender in that regard.

That last episode hooked me though.

Ratings still low, but up from the last episode, I'll take that !

I'll admit there have been some shows where I thought "That might be good but it's gonna get cancelled so why bother." Like that show Almost Human and the show from a couple years ago The Last Resort.

The thing is, and I honestly dont know this. But does my viewing even matter that much. I dont have a Nielsen Box so does what show I watch Live Matter or even OnDemand?

Im gonna keep with Halt and Catch Fire. I think it's just missing that one thing from being a great show. I just cant guess what it is.

Don't know, but someone else will say the same thing, then another one, and that's how shows get cancelled. To be fair though, the subject matter of Halt & Catch Fire is never going to attract big numbers, it's a niche theme.

Latest episode was really interesting. With every passing week I hope this wont get cancelled. It gets better every episode to me

Is the technology world really more of a niche theme than that of meth-dealing?

Ha, just sayin...

EDIT: And just to be clear, I'm enjoying this show a lot and I hope it gains enough traction to get a renewal.

I love it. Joe is the most fascinating character to watch on TV each week.

Each episode ends with a character at a crossroad and it leaves you hanging to see how they move forward next week. It's a great strength of the show.

The only thing I'm not feeling is the potential affair Gordan's wife is heading for. She's a good character and isn't annoying but she's ready to cheat on a guy that is a good man and father that's only really guilty of being an unfocused workaholic.

This show is really showing a lot of potential. Last week's showed that. This week it's continuing to grow. The longer this show stays, the better it can get.

Goddam, that episode was fantastic, especially the whole thing surrounding the storm & thunder, stunning visuals, those characters are growing & growing, especially Gordon & Joe, Cameron too though. Those last 15 minutes were so poetic & heartfelt. Joe is so mysterious, at least, we can see (and we knew he had it in him) that he might actually somebody with a real beating heart when he's not busy being a jerk. For a second, I thought that he got those scars from maybe being stricken by lightning, that would have been cool, although maybe a tad unbelievable ^^

I just cannot understand how some people think the show is boring, it's just fascinating & interesting.

The potential affair I agree could be annoying, we'll see, she won't cheat I think, we'll most likely see her strength of character when she sends the poor fu*** packing.

By the way, the positive is that the L+3 numbers keep being much much stronger.

If this show continues beyond season 1 I can see Cam, Joe, and Gordon all havinging seperate companies and them going for each other's necks

Cameron is clearly being groomed by John to replace Joe and/or Gordon. The season may end with them releasing the computer to rave reviews and John immediately fires both for some crooked reason.

I wonder if some point the show's setting transitions to the Silicon Valley?

Another good episode. Gordon's fairy tale was really great.
I get chills anytime hes with his kids
