The Punisher is back as American Gigolo on September 9th.

I’m looking forward to this one.

17% on Rotten Tomatoes. Lower than Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo.

Oof. I love Bernthal but I think I’ll be skipping this.

I don’t usually agree with critic's and In this case… I don’t. I really liked this first episode and we’ll continue too watch and see where the story goes.

Yeah, I heavily disagree with the critics on this one, because I thought the premiere was pretty great then again it wouldn't be the first time I disagreed with the majority of critics on a show. Mayor of Kingstown, The Terminal List and The Offer all got savaged by critics, and I still ended up loving all three of those quite a bit.

I get it though because this is a very dark show, and it feels like its going to get even more twisted as it goes on, but man does John Bernthal always brings his A game whenever he's onscreen.

Heh, to be fair, wasn’t the original movie savaged by critics of its day?

Just started watching this right now and Holy crap the raw emotion of Bernthal in the first five minutes was ripping. Reminds me why I like him so much. :D

I wasn't as crazy about it as everyone here was.
I haven't looked at the critics reviews, so I don't know what their critiques of the pilot are.

I felt it dragged in alot of places, and would have benefitted from being a shorter pilot.

As a fan of the OG American Gigolo , that's gonna effect how I view this version, and that's unavoidable.

In some ways, I feel it may work better for those who haven't seen the original version.

At the same time, I think you'll get more appreciation of this version if you've seen the original film.

It's a different Julian to be sure , and he doesn't have the elegance, charm, or swagger of Richard Gere's version .

With Gere, you could believe this was a hi priced call guy who could hob nob , and move in high society , even though he was an male escort.

That said, this is a different guy , and I think they were wise to not try to emulate what Gere's version was.

Bernthal is a good actor and he fits what they're going for with this version of the character.
He's got a bit of Christian Bale vibe to me at least.

I'm gonna see how the next couple episodes play out .

This episode was better than the first. I mean we got deeper into the world and got to know the characters more which is what a second episode of a new series is supposed to do so job well done and the episode gets a plus from me for playing some James Blake. I looked up the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and it has an 89% score compared to the 30% critic’s score so there is a clear disconnect.

Also I love that this show has the same vibe as Ray Donavan as in it could take place in that same world but that makes sense because this show was developed from the same showrunner as that show even though David Hollander isn’t on the series any longer. Anyway really loving this show so far.

As I've said elsewhere, the season concluded so well, I'm not surprised they ended it here. It is disas the cast was so good, but Im not sure where they would have taken it next.

I really enjoyed this show and the first season pretty much tied things up perfectly so I can't say I'm mad about this cancellation and would still recommend it to those curious about it, especially if you like the cast.

Canceled just in time for the Punisher hopefully.
