So I have an idea for redoing the phoenix arc.

In the new timeline, Wolverine is simply obsessed with avoiding the mistakes of the old timeline, and it's all he can think about. At some point, when with Jean, he remembers the Phoenix events in X-Men 3, she sees herself as evil and recoils in great fear, and this is what triggers the phoenix within her.

Good idea or bad?

How about, Charles doesn't repress Jeans power this time like he did before and she has more power than in the OT and something happens that triggers the Phoenix persona from breaking out.

Are you suggesting that this should happen in a FC cast movie or an OT cast film?

For the FC cast films, the Wolverine of the past wouldn't remember the events of the OT films, who knows when will he meet Jean.

But if its for the OT cast films, I don't know. I would like for them to explore new things.

If they're going to do the Phoenix Saga again I'd like to see a more faithful adaption that involves the Shi'ar Empire.

For the FC cast films, the Wolverine of the past wouldn't remember the events of the OT films, who knows when will he meet Jean.

But if its for the OT cast films, I don't know. I would like for them to explore new things.

It would require a continuity change for Wolverine to have some memories of his previous life

EDIT: UNLESS they write it so that he has flashes of some of the memories of the future Wolverine whose consciousness took over his body. It's possible, I suppose.

More than likely, Xavier will - after his experiences with Mystique and his decision not to meddle with her mind in the final scene - decide it's not good to tamper with people's minds and leave Jean's mind alone. Her powers will develop naturally, with his guidance this time, not with him giving her a psychic lobotomy.

I say just have young Jean be Phoenix... the same way Scott is Cyclops and Ororo is Storm. The same way Rachel Summers was Phoenix for a while... not crazy psycho phoenix. Just a girl with extraordinary powers that haven't been fully tapped into yet.

That's true, he was essential dormant while Future wolverine used his Body

The thing that's interesting is that X3 and First Class sort of make Xavier look like a terrible human being when he was younger. The way he controlled Mystique and Jean were unethical and have had major consequences. DOFP rectified that and now he's closer to the Xavier in the original trilogy. So I looked forward to how this new Xavier will handle the Phoenix situation.

The X3 explanation of the Phoenix always confused me. Someone correct me if I'm wrong: Jean's powers were too much for her to control, Xavier put mental blocks in Jean's mind that moved most of her mental powers to the subconscious part of her brain, and that's what created the persona that manifested itself as the Phoenix? Or did the Phoenix persona already exist before the blocks?

Jeans powers were too great for her to control so Prof. put mental blocks to only give her access to some of her powers while he worked with her to develop the locked powers. A side effect of having a greater portion of her powers locked away was that the Phoenix persona was created. Xavier knew of the persona but Jean had no knowledge at all of how powerful she really was and that there was a split personality dwelling inside of her.

It's a hard situation that I hope is handled in Apocalypse because what else do you do for a ten yr old girl who can't control her powers?

Longer before other studios started it, Fox or more precisely Songer were laying down the foundations and setting up the Phoenix saga right from the very first X-Men and all through the trilogy. It just sucks that it had such a lacklustre final act.

In X1 Jean discusses her powers being limited compared to Xavier with him working with her to expand and control them. I view the effect of Magneto mutation device knocking away some of the blocks Xavier placed in her mind. If you watch that scene once the device is destroyed and the blob of energy dissipates the camera lingers on Jean who has a strained and shocked face.

In X2 they followed this up with her losing control of her powers at several scenes throughout the movie.

Then X3 completed the unlocking of her full Mutant abilities.

It's just a shame that it wasn't completed as well as it could've been

X-Men and X2 were setting up phoenix but becase of the BTS problems it was major mess In Last Stand. Bryan Singer was settin it up as being evolution of jean's powers caused by machine In X-Men. Due to rothamn we got the split personality zombie phoenix which made
Xavier look like jerk.

We may not see phoenix again untill a complete reboot.In one of his many interviews Simon Kinberg said the jean at end of DOFP never became phoenix.

They probably won't do the Phoenix story again just like they probably won't every use the sentinels again

I say have young Jean be Phoenix. And toward the end of the arc, have Jean request Charles to help suppress the Phoenix Force, out of her fear of being unsure if she can do it herself. None of this b.s. where he just goes and does it behind her back so to speak.

I still say have Prof. X hesitantly put the blocks in with Jeans permission (and with help from an alive and well Emma Frost) and then when they're losing the fight with Apocalypse have them unleash Jeans full powers so that she can defeat him. After she's beaten him the power is too great for her and she starts to become the problem wrecking havoc on everything. Charles and Emma have to put the blocks back in before the whole world goes to hell and though they succeed Charles is left so strained his hair has fallen out in the process.

Prolly no, but it would be cool to see Jean and Emma's uneasy relationship on the big screen. They could also do like in the animated series where Prof. X goes inside jeans mind to find her too scared to take over her Phoenix possessed body and together they lock the Phoenix up. Either way it would be a great way to get us some true Dark Phoenix action and a good reason for Xavier going bald.

Emma could easily show up in the next film and say she just went in hiding. There's really no need for a big explanation for that. But I don't know if the writing team are interested in using her again.

Fans hated Emma Frost. Not having read x-men comics I didn't get the hate.
