I wonder if people were this hateful towards the cover in pheonix endsong with Cyclops holding a dead emma in his arms...a homage to the him holding jean in his arm from the dark pheonix saga....???........I don't think this cover is that bad.....

X-Men: Phoenix -- Warsong #5 will arrive in stores on Feb. 7 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Greg Pak, with art by Tyler Kirkham and a cover by Marc Silvestri.
Here's how Marvel describes the issue:
"Who dares challenge the judgment of the Phoenix? The showdown at the Weapons Plus super-soldier creation facility known as 'The World' reaches its shocking climax as the Cuckoos embrace their destiny -- and Emma Frost makes the most terrifying decision of her life."
I don't know why everyone is so up in arms about them doing a similar cover. It's not like this is the first time it's happened:

Thanks for the link Specter! I didn't remember some of those covers. I don't really like this Phoenix Warsong cover because the art is not on the level of Land's (yes, I'm a big fan of Land). Besides, plotwise I still prefer the Endsong one. On the contrary, even if I love the Endsong cover with Scott holding Emma in his arms, I prefer the Byrne one with Jean because its more meaningful.
I can't wait to read this last issue to see how Pak deals with these thousands of "Stepford Phoenixes". I just hope he doesn't kill the three regular Cuckoos because I really like them.
But if you draw something based on something drawn by another person, it's inevitable that your work gets compared to the original. I think this Warsong cover is a good homage to the original, but I just prefer the original (both artwise and plotwise)I think it's kinda unfair to compare Kirkham's work to Land. I mean, I may not a fan of Kirkham's at all, but I really do think that Land was on the league of his own. Which means, his style is so distinctive that you can't mistaken it being drawn by any other artists but him. I do love Land though.

Why does Marvel continue to mess with the Phoenix mythos? Just leave it alone. ever before
The whole Phoenix being caged within diamond hearts is stupid. First of all its only a small fragment of the Phoenix force. Jean as Phoenix is still out there and powered up and there are several other fragments. So the Cuckoos locked one (I guess now 3) fragment up. So what? Its not like the Phoenix is gone bc its still out there. This solution fixxed nothing and I dont know what the end of this mini was supposed to accomplish
