The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Andrew Garfield IS Spider-Man!

I liked the fact that he told Gwen his secret too. I doubt he will tell Mj since if Gwen dies then he might be hesitant.

MJ should figure it out on her own, but not say anything. She could wait for him to officially confirm it out of respect for his wishes.

I felt Garfield was better than Maguire. Always liked Maguire as PP/SM

Garfield is definitely a better Peter/spiderman than Maguire. I liked Maguire, but he just never had an edge, and he was too geeky all around. Too corny. Garfield is amazing! There's so many layers to him in ASM. I can't WAIT to see him tackle the symbiote storyline scenarios once that stuff comes around (and it will).

Maguire also couldn't pull off the jokes/quips, they sounded off coming from him. Of course, that may have been more how the character was written than Maguire himself. That character never struck me as the type who would crack jokes, which is probably a script problem.

I wish that one day we can get a Peter is who is a 'nerd' or whatever, very smart but isn't corny. Just someone who wit and smarts comes naturally to. Garfield is good, but he always has that hispter thing going on which to me isn't like Peter.

Peter making witty comments/remarks in class and nobody says anything, just awkward stares.

The problem with Peter being a "nerd" in the way that a lot of people are talking about is that most actual "nerds" don't act that way, at least not today. It's a stereotype. Peter in TASM was much more realistic, he was socially awkward and a little odd, which was an interesting way to take the character.

Why does everyone call Peter a "hipster" in TASM? This is a good example of what a hipster looks like:

What the hell does "hipster" even mean, that's such a subjective term? Is he a hipster because he has a skateboard, because lots of people have them.

Here is what urban dictionary has to say:

Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.

Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer.

Although hipsters are technically conformists within their own subculture, in comparison to the much larger mainstream mass, they are pioneers and leaders of the latest cultural trends and ideals. For example, the surge of jeans made to look old and worn (i.e. "distressed"), that have become prevalent at stores such as The Gap, American Eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Hollister, were originally paraded by hipsters who shopped in thrift stores years before such clothing items were mass produced and sold to the mainstream consumer.

Not supporting this label, but based on Peter's appearance and that "definition", one can see why people are labelling him as such, as the bolded portions definitely apply to the character as seen in TASM:

To be fair about the glasses, they were his father's.

And he didn't start wearing them UNTIL he knew that they were his dad's. I took Peter's clothing as being representative of his social awkwardness and that his Aunt and Uncle didn't have a lot of money, they were working class people. He has a skateboard, that's they extent of his valuing art.

Arguing about the definition of a hipster. This makes me sad. We need news or a trailer... Quick!

True, but the fact that some people keep throwing around words like "hipster" or "emo" to describe Peter, despite clearly not knowing what those words actually mean, makes refuting them a worthwhile cause.

How was his clothing representative of his social awkwardness? He wasn't even "socially awkward" (this term gets bandied about a lot), as Webb or Garfield noted in an interview, he's meant to be an "outcast" more by his own choice than anything else. He's an intelligent, well spoken young man. Because he gets a little tongue tied when he talks to Gwen he's suddenly "socially awkward? Also, He wore all the most up-to-date fashions you might find at a store like Urban Outfitters. They lived in a nice home as well. They were definitely lower middle class if anything. Hardly poor.

As far as the art, Peter had quite a few photographs displayed that were hardly for the yearbook.

No, he was socially akward from the beginning. He wasn't hated by everyone at school, but they mostly ignored him. He had trouble talking to or relating to the other students, that's shown from the beginning, sorry if you missed it. Also, him talking to Gwen was him starting to overcome his social awkwardness, not proof of it. Why you would even bring that up is puzzling. I never said that they were poor, I said that they were working people, stop jumping to conclusion where none exist.

Sorry, I don't buy it. How exactly was he "socially awkward"? Exactly what traits did he exhibit? Once again, you're using the term incorrectly. Peter wasn't nervous in social settings (and if he was, it wasn't shown or made clear), he didn't act inappropriately in social situations (stuttering doesn't count), he wasn't antisocial, He was obviously confident and unafraid of speaking up and standing up to Flash, etc...Not socially awkward. Where you guys get this stuff, I have no idea.

No one ever claimed that anyone hated him (which has nothing to do with being socially awkward anyway) and when were we shown that other students ignored him? By the girl approaching him and asking him to take pictures of her boyfriends car (she may not have been interested in him romantically, but she certainly wasn't ignoring him)? By Gwen Stacy, the prettiest/smartest girl at school noticing him and starting conversation/flirting with him?

You said that they didn't "have much money", implying that they were lower class, as in, barely getting by. You write in vague, poorly thought out blankent statements, I respond in kind and you find it "puzzling". lol.

Stuttering and having issues form proper sentences is part of being socially awkward.

Gwen Stacy: What are you doing here?
Peter Parker: I work here. I don't work here. I was gonna say...I was gonna say I work here, but I seems like in fact you work here. So you know that I don't in fact work here.
Gwen Stacy: Are you following me?
Peter Parker: No, I'm not following...I'm not following you. No, I'm not. I had no idea worked here.
Gwen Stacy: Then why would you be here?
Peter Parker: I just snuck in because, I love science.

We can also assume that Peter's family is probably lower middle class at the start of the film, though their financial issues will get worse now that Uncle Ben has passed away.

Right, like I said before, getting tongue tied in front of someone you like is not the same as being "socially awkward". Did Peter talk this way to his Aunt and Uncle? Connors? Captain Stacy? No.

I repeat: Peter wasn't nervous in social settings (and if he was, it wasn't shown or made clear), he didn't act inappropriately in social situations, he wasn't antisocial, He was confident enough to speak up and stand up to Flash, etc...Not socially awkward
