Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi'

I'm very, very intrigued by this movie. Looking forward to it :woot:

For anyone that has seen it already, was the 3D great? I keep hearing it was but the trailer that I saw in 3D was not really good.

Saw it in Sept. for a film festival.

Best since Avatar.

Alright, I guess ill check it out in 3D. I'll see it this Thursday after seeing Lincoln.

The theater is pretty relaxed so it's not that hard to "sneak in." I just hop to the next movie like normal. lol

I saw a masterpiece after work today...in 3D. One of the most fascinating, detailed, and beautiful films I have ever seen.

The acting and scenes on the boat/raft were absolutely unreal. The CGI/whatever they did to make the tiger and other things stand out was top notch. 3D used perfectly and Ang Lee I swear did his research on 1978 India...I loved it.

I then saw it again by sneaking in lol...Only to understand the story one more time especially [blackout] the explanation of Richard Parker and the story to the writer by older Pi (Irfan Khan) and the story young Pi gives to the Japanese Insurance men. I am still wrapping my head around this on which story is truly real...Appears the tiger story was just Pi unleashing his emotions through a Bengal like his father talked about at the start of the film [/blackout]

Question for those who read the book or film
[blackout] The writer reads the insurance report and it says that Pi survived his ordeal with a Bengal tiger...Does this mean the Japanese men did not want to use the story about the cook? or they believed the Richard parker story?[/blackout]

and

[blackout] is the writer Yann Martel himself portrayed through by this guy?[/blackout]

As I understand it [blackout] They chose to believe the Richard Parker story. [/blackout]

Ah thanks...I feel the need to see this again. It's such a powerful story.

Going to read the book, am looking forward to what others think after seeing it.

Just saw it, absolutely stunning. Cinematography wise, this blows away Skyfall.

One of the most powerful films I have seen. The story (both of them to those who saw the film) are wonderful and heart wrenching. Bravo!!!!

Listening to the Soundtrack right now. AMAZING! My new Oscar frontrunner (untill I hear what Mr. Williams is up to)

A live action Tintin, should it have the same visual style as this? I'm just getting a feeling here...

My god.

The best film I have seen in 2012.

Maybe the best film I have seen in 10 years.

My only criticism, and a light one at that:

I was expecting to see the "alternate story" also being dramatized, instead of being relayed verbally. But I understand why Ang Lee chose not to go that route; it would have essentially ended the film on almost a horrific note, which was the opposite of the story Ang wanted to tell.

I'd say 9/10, beginning dragged a little before getting on the ship only reason really. Think it will do good business for 13 + crowd but may be too intense for those younger- even adults were flinching in the theater (more than I've seen from some horror films). Disney is working on the JUNGLE BOOK which should be really awesome- just got to maybe tone the tiger down in that one. Even though the tiger was awesome, the beginning just seems like it may be too intense for the younger kids.

Jungle Book would be a solid film with this sort of CGI

I couldn't believe or tell that it was CG, who did the special effects?
