On Monday i intend to buy an animated movie as it's been a while since Ive gotten one and this year seems to have produced some decent ones

The 2 I'm choosing between are Cars and Monster house and I'm asking the hype to recommend one over the other and tell me a bit about why you recommend the one you recommended:woot:

Damn, this is a hard one. Personally, I love both. I'd probably buy Monster House first, though. It has a stronger theme running through it with Holloween and all, and the plot seems a bit more put together than Cars. Cars is still great, but it seems like film that's more about it's heart than anything else.

I wondered that from the trailers,Monster House seemed to feel like an oldschool family adventure movie with a strong story
Which would you say has the better characters/animation ?

Animation-wise, I'd say their both great in their own way. Cars seems like CGI-animation perfected. Everything's so smooth and crisp and done really well. Monster House goes for more of a claymation look with everything, and pulls it off equally well.

Character-wise, I'd say Monster House wins. While Cars' characters have a lot of heart (like I said), Monster House seems to feature just a ton of classic archetype characters. The heroic lead, the dopey best friend, the out of touch parents, etc. It may sound cliche, but all of them are done excellently.

Monster House was a gem. Never got to seeing Cars, didn't appeal to me but I'll see it at some point.

I loved the parents and their back and forth.
It had a bit of a Goonies feel to it and loved all the subtle shout out to movies like Alien(s). It's a little more grown up, heard some parents leaving saying it was too scary. I love it for that.

I saw both and I'd get Monster House if I were you. I loved the pop culture references and the claymation look. When it starts, you just know you're going to be in for a great treat. Cars is also good, I enjoyed it a lot. I can't exactly decide which I like best because both of them are very different in their own way; one is scary fun and one is what you would normally expect from Pixar, except for cars.

Just rent them both and make your own decision, you bum-face!! :cmad:

Monster House.

neither.

Cars creeps me out. Where the F*** are the people? Who made the cars? Are they Cylon cars?

and Monster House looks like crap.

Cars by a slim margin, it is just so beautiful and can be quite touching. Monster House is amazing though, make sure you see it also soon after, then after that, unless you alread have, see Over the Hedge, which gets passed over but is pretty darn good too.

Both were great movies, if you were going to buy both eventually, I'd say go ahead and get Cars first since it has more features for you to watch.

I hate to say this but Ice Age The Melt Down and Happy Feet were better then Cars, and Monster House in my opinion. As far as great animation goes and story. Cars is fun but its not the best. Also montser house was no where neara s good as the Polar Express in my opinion. I can't vote for either for i think they weren't the best.

Weird to see Ice Age 2 mentioned with such movies as Cars and Monster House, as from what I have seen it's mostly considered to be a good step below those two, and I think the same, not even close in my eyes.

Is Over The Headge the one with the mission impossible thing in it and Bruce Willis as one of the voices ?

Yep!

It seems like many people on these boards automatically dismiss a movie due to it being a computer animated movie, but this year we have had more than a few that are worthy of watching as much as most other films. Cars, Monster House, Over the Hedge, and Ice Age 2 are all good to great films, and Flushed Away and Happy Feet have gotten good reviews and good reception(at least for Happy Feet), and even The Wild didn't completely suck! :D

I have to disagree with you primemover this years animated movies at least to me were very disapointing.

I picked Cars, only because I have not seen Monster House. Keep in mind though, Larry the Cable Guy's role in Cars is incredibly annoying (when isn't he?)
