I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread when I used the search function, but this film deserves to be mentioned and seen. I do have to say although it looks like a kid's film, it's not. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone younger than 10 or 11. There is violence, innuendo, adult themes, crude jokes, and other things that are inappropriate for small children. So if you do have small children, leave them with a babysitter and go watch the movie. So the basic story is that a kid named D.J. is left home with a babysitter while the parents go to some dentist conference. The babysitter is far from homely and appears more as a bully than a babysitter. D.J. constantly spies on the house across the street that belongs to an old man named Nebbercracker. When Nebbercracker has a heart attack and dies, the House takes on a life of it's own and subsequently eats anything or anyone that steps on the lawn. D.J. gets help from his friend named Chowder (who assumes the role of the comic relief sidekick) and a girl from a prep school named Jenny to stop the House from taking any more victims. If this film isn't nominated for "Best Animated Picture" at the Oscars next year, then it'll be a crime. It's a wonderful film that transcends the normal boundaries of an animated film and give us something more. The characters, although animated, don't feel like cartoonish characters. They're acting more like real people. There are many, many moments where you'll laugh and jump. This movie is smart, funny, and action packed and will be a treat for families (all kids over 10 of course).

10/10:up:

it is alot of fun...reminded me of the fun time I had with "The Goonies" way back when:)

Really? I thought it was going to be another cliche, kids movie with no substance. But if that stuff is true,I might see it.

yeah, i've heard quite a few reviewers call it similar in tone to the goonies. and that is in no way a bad thing.

I have some doubts about this movie, but anyway I will go to see it.

It looks like a fun movie, but then again, like a lot of these CGI animations, the plot looks like your typical episode of a CN or Nickelodeon cartoon.

Are we talking the olden times of the good cartoons of those networks or the recent times?

BTW, :D at my art as your avy.

CN and Nick mostly suck now, but they still have some good stuff, like Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Foster´s Home For Imaginary Friends, Danny Phantom, etc. I´d say the plot of MH sounds much like a plot for Courage - actually, I think there was an episode that also had a live "monster" kinda house.

Great manip!

the plot takes some pretty dark turns towards the end and it's far from boring:up:

The kids basically act like kids. Not like the cartoon kids that act like adults normally. The facial expressions were pretty well animated, and not as creepy as you would assume. The redhead girl Jenny particularly looks almost photorealistic.

I just saw the movie today in 3D and I have to admit, I waked in with not so high expectations but I was wrong. It was actually a really good movie. The two boys, DJ and Chowder immediately reminded me of Elliot from E.T. and Chunks from The Goonies. Another thing I liked was that the characters were all realistic as opposed to being a stereotype. The story was a little predictable for me but it was still very enjoyable. The feel of the movie was definitely like Spielberg's family films and I loved and missed that feel from recent movies; It's nice to know it still exist. The animation and set were very detailed and realistic, the people were as realistic as everyone looked more like a caricatures brought to life. Overall the movie was great. I would describe it as a mix of The Goonies, E.T., and a little bit of Poltergeist.

I'm seeing it in 3D this weekend. Is the whole movie in 3D or just parts of it?

The whole movie plus some trailers too.

They just MUST use Michael Jackson "Thriller" in this movie.

It's a friggin HORROR comedy, you'll never get another chance to use it.

EXCELLENT! Which trailers?

I don't remember all of them but the trailer for the rerelease of Nightmare Before Christmas has Jack coming out at you at the beginning and end of the trailer. I don't really remember the other trailers but I remember there were bubbles floating around in one but it was pretty cool-looking.
