the race of the actress isn't important to me either, but the orange skin IS a dealbreaker ( hence why the race isn't important - they should be made to look orange skin via makeup, cgi, or whatever means ).
if Star isn't orange, then it isn't Starfire, imo.
same with Beast Boy - he's green or it's not Beast Boy.
Starfire isn't black or latina or white or asian. She's an orange skinned alien who's supposed to be drop-dead gorgeous. the actress playing her can be any ethnicity, but as Starfire, she needs to be orange skinned. cuz that's who the character is.
this isn't some detail like the proper hair color, which isn't always adhered to. no, this is a distinct visual characteristic of the character we're talking about.
if you can't translate it properly to the screen, then don't bother using said character. I get that a tv budget ( let alone a streaming only show ) isn't as high as a blockbuster movie budget like Guardians of the Galaxy. but there are plenty of alien/sci-fi tv shows that do feature different looking alien characters and creatures. So, don't tell me it's impossible.
And Starfire isn't some shapeshifter like Martian Manhunter or Miss Martian or Mystique, so you can't go the route of Supergirl where she has a human disguise and then her alien form where she's the proper skin color. That's a cheap cop-out that fundamentally changes the character.
the only way that would work is if there's some external factor. like a tech device modulator that makes her ( and Beast Boy ) look "normal skin." or Raven casts a spell on them that makes them look normal. And maybe that's the particular context of those set pics. but outside of that, there's no reason for Starfire or Beast Boy to have normal looking skin on the show, without fundamentally changing the characters.
