Titans Anna Diop is Starfire

You can kind of see orange peeking through when she uses her powers. I don't know if she's a shapeshifter or what. Guessing she's in disguise in some capacity, trying to blend in with the people of Earth. I would imagine we will eventually see her real appearance, and that it will involve some version of orange skin. After all, Garth is green.

The belief they can say whatever they want and it have no consequences.

I think it's been said she doesn't know she's an alien. Which is a shame if true as she will essentially be acting like a normal girl rather than someone who has grown up as an alien.

Though I would've preferred a spanish actress in the role, like Lindsey Morgan, I can be fine with Anna Diop or another black actress that I think would look more like the character. The character's design in the show doesn't help with the look for me. I don't like the hair and think the outfit does look not good.

Starfire is a Alien with Orange Skin so why would prefer a latin actress ? and her outfit is confirmed from a 70's party and not her actual costume

That still doesn't justify everything else wrong.

Her wiki says she's mexican and irish.

whats wrong with the casting? the design doesnt look good but im not seeing the issue with whom they casted, unless you are concerned that shes black.

shes supposed to be fn orange..not black
if shes a black actress and painted orange... no big deal

I have no issue with a black actress. I have a problem with them using the absolute most ridiculous weave and pleather dress they could find. I get it. Comic book Starfire dressed extremely provacatively, but they explained that away as her culture not having the same hang ups about their bodies that we do. The Titans TV show literally makes her look like a $10 street walker. Let's be honest. Comic SF looks like a high class call girl! Iknow I put it in the other thread, but I can't help but think about...

Why doesn't anyone just address the elephant in the room; yeah Starfire is technically a non-human orange alien - but in her cartoon iterations her face shape is delicate and angular, the actress simply doesn't look similar. Some part of it is maybe overzealous racists that imagined a white actress, but some part is probably also just that she doesn't look similar to the character in almost any way.

Also, the outfit is quite terrible.

At least part of the backlash is likely related to that, too.

The delicate and angular face thing is an issue I've had too. But if I thought the hair and outfit looked good, I like to think I'd be fine with the face thing. Though Kat Grahm would've been an actress preference of mine otherwise.

Kat Graham or Jessica Lucas would have made a difference, but more than that she isn't orange and she's got the wrong wardrobe (although I like the new dress better than the old dress). Fix those things, and I think the bulk of the criticism would go away.

The hair looks good? What pictures are you looking at because the ones I have seen look like a cheap wig. Her outfit sucks too, whether or not it is true to the comics I don't remember her ever having a coat like that and since we're diverging so far from the comics anyways, why not give her a more practical looking outfit? Maybe something not so reflective at least?

we don't even know the full context of that outfit, though.

for all we know, she could be wearing that outfit for a specific reason - like for a 70s themed party as others have mentioned here.

It's the exact same thing they did to Domino in Deadpool 2. She looks absolutely nothing like her and if you have a problem with it somehow you're a white male racist.:loco:

Oh hell yeah. I love those 2 , they look better and younger. Starfire is supposed to be freakin hot right? Anna isn't ugly but doesn't have that Starfire appeal IMO.

I keep hearing this from fans but not a single thing from an official source that says otherwise. Until I see something from an official, not fan created source, I am assuming this is her look and it is disappointing.

Not everyone has to automatically be racist when they say a character looks terrible. Sometimes a character design just looks terrible and in this case, it looks terrible. Dismissing any criticism as racism is completely ignoring valid reasons people don't like the look.

Beastboy is almost as disappointing (his skin tinting looks like 70's era Incredible Hulk and he didn't morph) and Raven barely improves on teenage goth look. Not a lot about her looks impressive. Robin is the only standout who looks decent in the trailer (though we only got a glimpse of Dove, it wasn't enough).

What is a delicate face shape?
I'm wondering the same thing  I hope we aren't talking about the ultra-stylized Teen Titans cartoon because no human being has a face shape like that.

Or is this about Anna's 'features" not being right for Starfire? :whatever: whom was originally based on Naomi Cambell... a Black woman.

And super model (I thought she looked more like Tyra though). Which means she was always going to be a tough one to get right live action. Part of the gag with her has also been how hot she is and how she doesn't always get it.

Was this the best first impression? No. The posted gifs show her with a purple tinge before turning orange. The outfit shown has no context so at a first glance you can only assume it's her permanent one, and it wasn't a great look mostly because of the fur. They were never going to do the 'swimsuit', but they should've given a better look at her without the 70's pimp fur.

Hopefully this was just marketing not having enough film to properly display the final look, we get something better in future releases, and Anna's performance in the role sways the haters.

Well then let's really discuss the elephant in the room.

Star-Fire looks like a white person with orange skin not a black person with orange skin.

Same way you can't give Victor Stone or John Stewart white skin in the comics/cartoons and they'll immediately look like a white person. They have black features other than just skin color that you would need to address too.

That's the same way Star-Fire in the comics and cartoons has white features even if she's an orange alien.

Don't @ me, I'm black myself.

People who are leaving her racist comments are pieces of **** but I don't think its fair to just go if you don't like her as Starfire then you are automatically a racist.

Like many have said on here there is a lot wrong with what they've done.

1. Changed the costume
2. Skin not orange (Now I know on good old planet Earth the only race of people who are orange are young girls who have get a bit carried away with there fake tan so I don't want to here some excuse why they couldn't do it.)
3. Powers appear to have been changed to just fire (oh I get it because her name's starFIRE wow that's clever!")
4. If what some of you are saying is true they've changed her origin.

A big part of me does feel sorry for the actress because I doubt many if any of these decisions were her choice but as she's who 's portraying the character she will face the bulk of the criticism. Poor girl probably wishes she'd never heard the name Starfire.
