Anonymous Declaration of War on the United States

Hmm, well whether they are capable of this or not this is an act of sedition and treason which is still punishable by death in the United States. They better hope our government ignores this.

If posting a youtube video is considered an act of sedition and treason worthy of execution then I side with the guys in the Guy Fawkes masks.

The Revolution was fueled, in part, due to the rise of pamphlets in the time. I see no reason why they would frown upon Twitter or any sort of new technology.

Revolutionary movements across the world have been aided by the instant communication provided by twitter. That is awesome.

It is preposterous how completely overstated a lot of that supposed role has been however.

Anonymous should stop calling themselves "anonymous", because the title no longer fits. They're an organization that no longer represents the will of people on the whole, but their own interests and motives, most of which seem more to do with getting publicity for themselves than doing the right thing.

It is in this way that they're use of the V mask is actually quite fitting. They finally live up to the comic character rather than the "hero" he was turned into for the film.

"Some 5m internal emails from Stratfor, an Austin, Texas-based company that brands itself as a "global intelligence" provider, were recently obtained by Anonymous, the hacker collective, and are being released in batches by WikiLeaks, the whistleblowing website, starting Monday. The most striking revelation from the latest disclosure is not simply the military-industrial complex that conspires to spy on citizens, activists and trouble-causers, but the extremely low quality of the information available to the highest bidder...".

"Congress wasn't satisfied with NDAA. Now they are fast-tracking H.R. 347, which makes peaceful protest a federal offense in some circumstances. Our founding fathers are probably rolling in their graves right now."

It would be nice if it were true, but there is no direct means to know if it's even official.

Which is why I think the Anonymous movement is kind of losing it's impact, because any crackpot can claim they are Anonymous and that they're going to bring down some organization. Wasn't there one at the beginning of the year that said they were going to attack the Mexican drug cartels?

You do understand that if they actually try doing something after publicly declaring war and they get caught that IS treason?

People need to realize there is a difference between the government and the country.

Does anyone actually take these morons seriously ?

I take some of them very seriously.

But, as is always the case with any decentralized movement, a lot of them are clowns.

The same is true for Occupy Wall Street, the Tea Party and SuperHeroHype membership.

Its an open threat and call to arms to rise against the government. They arrest people for threatening to blow up airports even if its BS. Try it. Start posting on message boards and sending texts about bombing something or attack a goverment building or make a bunch of threats in general and you will be paid a visit at some point.

An open threat against the government is far worse. It doesnt matter if they are capable of it. A threat is a threat. An act of sedition by definition is discussing treason or the downfall of the government. That's what this is and by the laws of this country since its founding it is punishable by death. Not taking them serious is what allows real nutjobs to come in and make threats that go ignored.

I doubt anonymous is capable of anything substantial but we can't let organizations and people subvert the law. This is by definition sedition and treason. I take that seriously. If there ever comes a day when a stand must be made then so be it but now is not the time and they are not the oones to do it. They'd make a bad situation worse. They are like children who got a little power with their computers and think they are big ****. Personally I think its time they are reminded of that fact.

That is just my opinion. The law is the law tho and by definition they have broken it. Its in the governments court at this point but I think it would be foolish to not put them down once in for all before they do something significant such as screwing up wall streets system. The market couldn't withstand wall street shutting down for long I'd imagine or is that even within their capabilities?

Oh snap!

Haha they gave up already.

I'm glad you can acknowledge your role in our community.

That makes you a general of the clowns.

He very clearly stated that some of those involved in said groups are clowns. "Some," Chase, means "not all." Does it make sense now? :yay:

Anyway, I'd hardly think of leaving the job of socially analyzing this forum to Norman. :o

Of course trying to view this as "analyzing this forum" is actually missing the exact point I was making - that these characteristics are inherent within the very nature of decentralized, user-oriented organizations. To judge a group you dislike because of a few bad eggs is inherently fallacious. That was one of the more amusing things about watching the reaction to the Occupy movement - the right were attacking it with the same bogus BS the left used against the Tea Party (taking one crazy sign, be it anti-Semitic or racist) and trying to paint the entire movement with it.

This is macrosociology, not micro.

I'm glad Interpol decided to finally crack down on them.

I would be more impressed with Anonymous if they came up with their own material. Using V For Vendetta's speeches is kind of lame.

Yes. But notice how I only said "posting a youtube video."

Well then, I guess it's a good thing that "posting a youtube video" isn't an offense punishable by death.

However, publicly declaring war against the United States, well that's not "just posting a youtube video", now, is it?

These Anonymous guys are pathetic.
