"
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Authorities say 49 people died after a commuter plane crashed into a home in suburban Buffalo and burst into flames shortly after 10 tonight.

A state police spokeswoman said all 48 people aboard the Continental Connection Flight 3407 are dead. The local emergency control director in Clarence, about 20 miles northeast of Buffalo, said the crash also killed one person on the ground.
Continental Airlines said the plane was a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 operated by Manassas, Va.-based Colgan Air and was heading from Newark Liberty International Airport to Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
• VIDEO: Witness video from WKBW-TV
The plane crashed about 10 miles from the Buffalo airport.
Flames erupted from remnants of the house and aircraft as firefighters sought to control the blaze. Twelve homes near the crash site were evacuated."

ever hear about dangerous things they did back in the 1800s and prior because the technology didnt support what they needed to do? like "they did that?"

i swear one of these days they will figure out a way to solve these plane crashes. maybe in the future, supply a parachute for each person on the plane. i'm talking 50 + years form now. something should be done. i hate going on planes.

Most people on a plane wouldn't know how to use a parachute safely and ontop of that, imagine the ensuing panic if the pilot came on the intercom and informed passengers that the plane was going down and they need to evacuate. It would turn into a riot and you'd be lucky to get half the passengers out.

That said...

This is tragic and may these people rest in peace.

It's been very windy here in the North East the last 24 hours. I wonder if that had any cause to it?

Apparently they lost contact with the plane. Straight out of 24 or Fringe. The other planes ready to land were in a holding pattern as they couldn't find the plane. And then it crashed.

They played audio of the control tower trying to communicate with the plane. They talked to other planes to see if they could see it.

Watching the Buffalo NBC feed on CTV NewsNet.

CNN said 6038 Long St
Clarence Center, NY 14032 was the location of the crash. Check Google Maps.

I live in Clarence...the whole town is in awe. It's just such a small town with so many really condensed suburbs. I'm so amazed the plane only managed to only hit one house, and not any more. Especially considering Clarence Center is probably the worst place in Clarence to be so unfortunate to be hit by a plane crash. It is the "hot spot" of Clarence and a large amount of the population live there...My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the Victims. :csad:

Absolutely horrible. :csad:

Just when we get something as beautiful and inspirational, as a pilot safely landing an airplane of people in the Hudson River... we get a big slap in the face like this.

the conditions in Buffalo were pretty bad all night between rain and snow and dropping temperatures. Makes you wonder if they never should have taken off.

Friday the 13th.
Actually if you go by the local time zone- Eastern Standard Time- the crash occurred at 10:20 pm last night, Thursday the 12th. But if you're going by Greenwich Mean Time then it was 3:20 am Friday morning. Strange coincidence nonetheless.

After the heroics of Sully Sullenberger and his crew comes this.

Tragic.

They've been covering it non-stop on CNN, they've been playing this video someone took right after it happened and you can hear the woman who escaped from the house asking if someone can help her daughter and saying her husband was still in the house. Raw emotion.

What a terrible news, and it only came after a month of that plane that landed safely at the Hudson. Sees like alot of news about plane crashes lately.

I fly a lot out of Buffalo

Sad stuff. :(

I just read somewhere the one of the people on the flight was a widow of somebody who died in 9/11..wow :csad:

yeah but 50 years in the future theres no reason they couldnt teach people how to use parachutes through video in high school. similar to driving school. the dont actually have to go out and use one, but simulate it. its like first aid class, you get a certificate that says you know how to do cpr, without you actualyl having performed it.

there has got to be a way around it

that happened just 2 streets away from me, i heard the explosion last night
