Activision raised a lot of eyebrows last month with the revelation that Modern Warfare 2 will cost £55, but it's not enough for the company's CEO, Bobby Kotick. He wants all your money.

In Activision Blizzard's investor relations conference call, ActiBliz's bigwigs were asked by analyst Tony Gikas about their 'comfort level' regarding some of their more expensive games, with a nod to those that include expensive peripherals. The company's president and CEO of publishing, Michael Griffith, was diplomatic, noting "very strong retailer acceptance and support for all parts of our plan, including ... our price points".

Bobby, however, is not one to mince words. "And Tony, you know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further."

Apparently the £99.99 retailers are listing for Tony Hawk Ride and the $149 you'll pay for the 'prestige' release of Modern Warfare 2 (there's no solid UK price yet) aren't enough.

Sometimes, we're surprised Kotick can even see, with all those dollar signs in his eyes...

Seriously, these guys are worse than EA ever was.

I'm really not a huge fan of Activisions policies. Its all based on who is running the company. Apple's policy was crap until Steve Jobs jumped on board. Maybe its time for Activision to get its Steve Jobs.

Kotick is a jerk. They are following the footsteps of EA, until EA went under new management. Now EA seems to have changed making more original stuff and not new expansion sets and ripping people off every year. Now Activision has *a new Call of Duty/Guitar Hero every year*. It's amazing how EA has changed their tune, and now Activision is becoming the new evil corporation. Sad.

Hopefully they do get new management soon.

Can we start one of those stupid group things of the hype? AAA - Anti-Activision Alliance.

If you're in it, you're NOT allowed to buy Modern Warfare 2... we should get loads of members!

With their stupidity over Brutal Legend, their continuous milking off the Guitar Hero series, and now this, it's safe to say that they are the new EA.

Chances are the hype group getting overcharged, milked the crap out of with sequels to high end with stupid gimmicks will greatly outweigh any negative group to the point of complete irrelevancy.

I dont see the problem, at least not with this example. I mean whats the point of talking about the Prestige Edition of MW2? These ppl do realize thats not the standard price right? Dont want to pay that much, then go buy the standard $60 version. Them trying to stop Brutal Legend from dropping, that i see a problem in, this, i dont see what the big deal is.

I think the point of the article is that they're raising the price in the UK without any real base, on both the Prestige and Regular Editions

Ah. Thats odd. Why there and not in the US? The US is gonna buy more copies of MW2 than the UK, why not raise our prices? How much is the reg edition of MW2 in the UK compared to here? More than 60 bux?

He's saying that if it were up to him, that he would raise the prices of even more games to higher prices than what we've already seen.

Yeah, I think it's closer to 80. I don't remember the average price in the UK, but I remember Electro saying something about it in the MW2 thread.

Yea, i guess i figured he meant like the special editions of game like MW2. $60 is PLENTY for a standard game tho. No need to be raising them any higher.

After looking it up a bit the average prices for games in the UK is £40, as opposed to the £55 price tag that Activision will be selling MW2 for, and I think the Prestige Edition was hiked up too, but I couldn't find that.

I'm sure Electro will fill in the rest, if he wants, when he logs on next

Im still missing something i think, thats like Activision making the standard price of MW2 go from $60 to $80 US right? So how come they are doing it over in the UK but arent doing it here in the US, when they would stand to make more money by doing it in the US. I mean i know US shoppers arent any more bright than UK consumers so id assume Activision would jack our prices up as well.

More or less that's what it would be equivalent of. I don't know what the reason is, I don't think there really was a reason given.

I can only speculate, but I suppose it's easier to do that in those places because you can say it was currency converting problems or something. I don't know, maybe Electro has more on it

Yea, there has to be something else behind it.

How are people not angrier about this?
Maybe some of you will think I'm making a big deal, but I don't think we should accept this kind of cynicism. I'm just literally shocked at the things this individual is saying.
I am never going to touch an Activision game ever again.

Ill worry when they start jacking up my prices. As of now, this isnt my problem and im gonna get Modern Warfare 2 for 60 bux. Once they hike my prices, the gloves come off.

At least Activision makes good games. The only good EA games I've ever played was Dead Space and Mirror's Edge. And I'm not even sure if they made ME or just published it.

Eh Activision makes some pretty damn crappy games.

They made Mirror's Edge.

The CEOs are total d***wads. Too bad the developers they own make good games, so I can't complain since my two most anticipated games of the year are from Activision. (MUA2 & MW2)

Hey guys, welcome to what I was telling you like, a year and a half ago. I'm kind of shocked it's taken you all this long to figure it out. They've been doing their whole "Let's run this s**t into the ground!" thing since the Tony Hawk series, and when they put a different developer onto CoD 3 so they could crank them out on a yearly basis. Guitar Hero is going to be the death of music games, thanks to oversaturation. And Bobby Kotick is a guy who has admitted that he neither knows anything about, nor does he care to, about video games, and is running the company like you would any other corporation. "Find product that sells, keep making it and making it and making it, as it will never go out of style." He doesn't seem to realize that video games aren't f**king Cheerios or whatever, and that flooding the market with subpar products like the last few Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, and non-Infinity Ward CoD games is going to hurt his company, and his companies credibility, in the long run. I honestly hope that Modern Warfare turns out to be terrible, along with Tony Hawk: Useless Piece Of Plastic, and Guitar Hero: 18 Good Songs on a 85 Song Set List, and it finally wakes everyone up to how f**king terrible Activision is.

By the way, I'd join any ******ed Hype group that commits to not buying any Activision games...except maybe MUA2....But I'll be getting that used.

Why? Not that there is any chance of it, IW is amazing.
