Any Hypers still use laserdisc?

It was before my time, and my family wasn't too into the home theater thing, so I never had it at home, and I've never seen any normal movies on it. We used to use them in school for science classes alot though, for collections of stills and clips.

The only thing that bothers me with laserdisc is that I have to flip the disc over once one side is done.

first...i am sorry that i re open an old thread like this one.....

secondly: there are laserdiscplayers that are able to play both sides so you dont have to get up and change/turn the disc.

also laserdisc movies have been made for years and even a few years back.(last of the ld produced was in japan around 2001/2002 i believe) so thats not too long ago.

laserdisc players are still in production in japan. you can buy pioneer players for around 3000-5000 dollars(yes they con still cost you a lot if you want one of the best players ever made)

i am a moviefreak and well the laserdisc movies are often of a great quality when it comes to image/sound. also lots of the laserdisc movies are movies that never been transferred to dvd.
these days laserdisc movies are often only a few dollars but there are still movies around that can fetch 100-300 dollars easy.

laserdisc players/movies have a certain flair.... like with the lp's there are many collectors who like the sleeves and the look etc.....(the fact that some movies are hard to find also plays a part for collectors to love this medium)

i for one will never sell my collection(i recently bought another 100ld's most of them are still sealed)

if anybody want to start watching/collecting laserdisc movies.... stick to pioneer players because they are the best ones ever made.

if people want to sell their collection they can let me know..... i realllllly need more ld's in my collection hehehe

as a little kid i watched the jetsons movie and karate kid on laserdisc. :tear:

Had an itching lately to start up an LD collection myself.

I used to own some discs, sold them off once dvd came on the scene. Those damn discs were huuuuuuuuuge.

I have a small collection of LDs. The player I bought came broken though, haven't been able to find a working once since. :(

Dorky as this sounds (Too late!), I would love a physical media format that had the capability of Blu-Ray with the size and care of packaging/presentation as Laserdisc.

Have you tried Ebay or the secondary market?

That's where I got my original player from about 3ish years ago. The seller says it worked before he shipped (gut tells me he was telling the truth, seemed like a nice guy, but you never know) so I'm guessing it was damaged during shipping. Made me gun shy to try to ship one again.

You can apparently get a decent player and Laserdiscs for a reasonably cheap price.
