Aquaman's Critical Reception Thread (Rotten Tomato and Metacritic)

Do you think Critics are being too harsh on Aquaman? Do you agree with some?

I do blame WB cuz they took too long to start them universe, it made critics and gp start to feel loyalty towards Marvel so of course they'll bash everything DC related, it also didnt help that DC fans (us) are a mess.. everyone hating on DC movies, etc... i will never understand the hate for Green Lantern, it aint a good **** but its not as bad as F4, Daredevil or Hulk or even Catwomen and everyone treat that as the worst **** ever.

I did honestly enjoyed MoS and even JL (knowing it was a mess and was rushed af, but i enjoyed watching Flash, Bats and WW), maybe cuz since i was a sperm has been a fan of Bats and love the dark **** around the character. PS. Ill always hate Batffleck but i still enjoyed the movies somehow

I don't think there's any bias. Those tweets show nothing other than the reviewer's opinions.

In fact, I know there's no bias - look at WW's reception. Look at TDKT's reception.

DC has just been making bad movies. With Aquaman it seems they've made a good one that just doesn't quite get *there*. As I've said previously, the only DCEU movie that hasn't got the RT score it deserves (excluding Aquaman because I haven't seen it) is MOS.

When a movie like this is being criticized for not having an eco message and having too much CGI and "other" CBM movies aren't that's bias.

That isnt really fair though...this is a film that is about the King of the Oceans so it has specific reasons to HAVE that message. Of course all you need to do is see Orm talking to Nereus to know that part of the reason he wants to destroy the Surfaceworld is because they pollute and destroy the oceans. I mean...if a PREVIEW SCENE says that it makes me wonder if the dude wasnt paying attention when he saw the film. Knocking a film down for it is a bit shortsighted either way but he has every right to say it. (and we have every right to think he is an idiot for doing so)

Looking for bias and comparing what critics say about other movies to what they say about this one is a losing endeavor. Dont get me wrong it annoys me all to hell when I talk to people who rip the stuff then in the next sentence praise something else that is similar but we are human that is what we do. Attacking them or tweeting about it and throwing a hissy fit (which none of us are doing but is happening) is not going to change anything and will only end up making it worse in the long run.

The critics will say what they say and the fans will say what they say. People will move goalposts and trolls will come around. Just embrace it and enjoy it for the entertainment it is.

Oh and cause I am friggin weak:

There's always bias.

I don't think it's on a large scale though, unless we're talking about movement films like Black Panther or Wonder Woman.

Otherwise I don't see any conspiracy against DC. Some critics are evidently biased towards Marvel, but then again Marvel earned their positive bias and DC/WB earned their negative bias as well, with the help of DC fans who harrassed critics and made ridiculous petitions such as shutting down RT.

Keep releasing good movies and the brand will earn credibility, and nitpicking the movies will no longer be cool.

But wait... the movie does have an eco message.

Exactly. That is why it is easy to make fun of the guy who gave it a rotten because he said it was missing. It would be like saying Wonder Woman sucked cause it didnt have a "Pro Woman" stance...

New York Post:

"Considering Aquaman isn’t the known quantity Batman and Superman are, director James Wan could’ve been more visually creative"

I mean.... :funny:

The eco thing is definitely a silly complaint. But I can understand the cgi complaint. I've thought the cgi and compositing in this looked too obvious and at times bad since the first footage came out. It reminds me of star wars Episode 2 or 3 in that regard. And cgi underwater sequences have always looked like **** to me, and this film is loaded with cgi underwater sequences.

The complaint isnt about the quality tho but quantity.it reads like they are blaming Wan he didnt figure out how to film underwater lol

Did those critics really watched the movie?

Me when I see blurbs from rotten reviews, and realize that these idiots not only saw the film before I do but got paid for writing the 'reviews' :

I was thinking about that the other day and was going to hold it against the film, but it didnt seem fair. I dont like those cgi underwater sequences and I dont like that it was necessary to have cgi water sequences in the film, but it was necessary unfortunately. It would have been an extreme PIA and extremely expensive, not to mention dangerous and stressful, to shoot that many underwater sequences in water tanks. Studios and directors hate having to do scenes in water tanks, and the insurance people that have to cover actor's safety and injuries really really hate scenes shot in a water tank. Using CGI water and shooting on a dry green screen set has none of the risks and causes less aggravation.

I personally love CGI but maybe its because I was young when CGI was really new. CGI was something that people loved back in the day It is strange that today so many people take issue with it. Luckily I think the vast majority of people think like I do and actually think CGI is a feature not a bug.

CGI can transport us to magical Places that dont exist. It's a tool that often times is incredibly well used and art in itself.

Seriously the critics complaining about CGI here may as well drag SW for not actually shooting in the space lol

I don't think even if they wanted to do it in water tank, they could have done it.

And there will be other aspects to be criticized about. Remember that very short scene in BvS with Jason holding his breath, it is also because a lot of people hate BvS as well, but a lot of snarky remarks about how Jason was obviously holding this breath in that scene.

I will accept complaints about using cgi in Aquaman to film underwater scenes just as soon as the critic making that complaint shows me the GotG review they wrote complaining about using cgi to film outer space scenes instead of putting the actors in orbit.

ITS CALLED REVOLUTIONARY VFX STORYTELLING PEOPLE!!!!! It’s an ART not a SIN!

SPIDERVERSE IS REVOLUTIONARY STORYTELLING IN ANIMATION!!

WHERE IS EVERYONES SENSE OF WONDER

Also when they film death scenes I would hope it’s all authentic and the person actually dies. :o
