Or just so hopelessly complex they appear realistic to someone who knows nothing about engineering. (because I know nothing about it).

Hard to tell at this stage, really need to see them in motion to get a better idea of mechanics.

I don't know, I guess they look more organic now, kind of Beast Wars-ish.

thats a kind of clever way to start a new thread bashing the movie, i guess. way to go?

All I know is they look like ****.

I hope the movie's just so badass that it doesn't disturb my experience too much... :(

I guess I don't really have a satisfactory answer either. But I can see making designs realistic, or workable. But these seem actually at times less realistic than the traditional.

To me, they look more inspired by Bionicle than Transformers. Worse... they're pretty much a carbon copy of some of the old more organic looking Gobots Renegades. None of the pics we've seen- as "cool" as some may think they are- evoke Transformers (IMHO).

Ha, yah I can see the Bionicle in the new designs. I just don't understand why they couldn't keep it simple and have done something like this (I'm sure you guys have seen this a 1,000+ times.):

What that guy did seems realistic enough to me.

theres nothing realistic about this kind of movie......

but it is MORE realistic than the cartoon

the sound is mroe realistic, as you can hear from teh teaser.

you won't get a satisfactory answer because you've already made up your mind. as my instructor used to say "don't confuse me with the facts when my mind's already made up."

that being said, the cartoon and movie ways are both equally realistic since we don't know of any robots that can transform into vehicles that work as vehicles.

Yeah, they are. They cheated alot with the transformations in the cartoon. Parts would change size, or completely disappear. In the movie versions, all the original car parts look intact in robot mode, even the interiors and engine parts to a certain extent. In that regard, they are more realistic.

Until they can replicate an exact movie version in model form we don't know they are "realistic". The Blackout and Starscream prototypes look more like traditional Transformers than the movie versions we've seen of them...hinting to a "cheating" transformation. We'll see, but I don't see them transforming without shifting parts.

The thing is that with the proper engineers they can pull off a complex transformation without ANY cheating. If they can do it (partially) with the more expensive Transformers toys (Masterpiece series) then I'm sure with a 150 million dollar budget that they can do it in a movie. But, all this depends on what we see in the movie...they may have actually pulled off these "thousands of moving parts" without cheating.

As to the way they look...they look cool. But I agree with CFlash that they don't evoke, to me, a Transformer. Moreso a new product line. But you know how the toy industry is nowadays...slap on an old product name on a new design and you have instant marketability.

Um, I don't think the toys take into account all the underworking of the vehicle. We're not debating if it's totally realistic, just which version is more so.

That's why I said partially.

Well, compared to a cartoon made in 1984 they are more realistic. I just think that with today's technology and with the proper engineers that they could have done a realistic job while still evoking the proper nostalgia of the classic Transformers.

Tru dat.

The problems I see with the designs are the fact that they look too mechanical and not sleek in design. Look at our technological history the older the device the more clunky the device. Take the computer for example what once took up full rooms with moving parts can now fit in your pocket such as PDA’s and etc. The longer technology exist the sleeker the designs become.

With a race of Robotic life forms billons of years old you would think that their Robot forms would be more advanced looking. And for a race of warriors what since does it make to have vital systems unprotected.

Their technology is way beyond that of humans so making them look over complicated looking actually makes them appear to be less advanced than what we know as Transformers.

These were my exact thoughts when I first saw the movie designs all those months ago...

I've come to realize that appearances can be deceiving. They look like they are made up of car parts. That's because they transform from cars. If someone opened up BB's hood while he was in alt mode, they would see all the parts. When they transform, all those parts can't just disappear, can they?

I think largly, most of the car parts are just superficial. They're just nanomachines that have taken the form of car parts. So, they actually are more advanced than anything on Earth, they're just in disguise.

The nanomachines also allow for them to heal certain wounds, so armor wouldn't be needed.

They should see BB's face staring back at them. :woot:
I'm just kidding. What you say makes sense.

But apparently sorely missed. Because they're not so advance as be impervious to [BLACKOUT]liquid nitrogen[/BLACKOUT]. lol.

That would give me nightmares... or be really funny :yay:

Well, I think that would incapacitate them even if they had armor. The armor might help against the sabot rounds though.

I never really saw a point in making them even look mechanical the same as earth vehicles an outer shell is enough it is just a disguise after all. Like in Transformers: Infiltration when Ratchet was being repaired in the garage Jimmy mentions that he has never seen anything like this when he was working on Ratchets suspension.

Jimmy, "Is that your exhaust pipe or are you just happy to see me?"

Ratchet, "....."

A similar thing in Transformers Issue #1 when Buster(Spike) is trying to fix Bumblebee in his garage.

That makes for a better reveal IMO.
