For those who are seeing the movie in less than 24 hours or attended the advanced screenings, post your review/rating here. I might not get to see this tomorrow because of bad weather, but I'll see when I make my First Steps tomorrow.

Spoilers in spoiler tags as always. There's a Spoilers thread, if you want talk about what happened in the movie without using spoilers tags.

:ff:

Just caught a screening tonight. Still stewing on it, but I'd say a 7.5/10 at the moment. Character development and story left a lot to be desired in my opinion.

I said I wasn't gonna watch it today due to the bad weather, but it wasn't that bad and there wasn't a big flood unlike yesterday, so I saw it today - IMAX 3D. It wasn't even aware it was 3D and I wish it wasn't. I wish they gave us a poster instead of a drink/hotdog, because the ticket is really expensive, but wow wow wow the movie is Fantastic!

Best scenes
-The escape scene from Galactus' lair and all the worm holes in that segment, with Silver Surfer chasing the first family was just insane! I was like no way, Sue is going to labor in the middle of it, and she did! That was intense!
-The entire climax specifically when Sue was forcing Galactus into that ring/circle and other three were running to save Franklin was just ughhhh a moment!

I cannot wait to see this again in a regular screening (no 3d), to digest the movie more. The screen is a bit darker with the 3d glasses. The visual effects are splendid, the production design is exquisite. The Silver Surfer and Galactus look amazing and they really felt like big threats. I love the First Family though Sue is the star of the movie for me. I think this is probably in my top ten Marvel films now. Best MCU film since No Way Home!

4 out of 4!

Just got home. I enjoyed it! Finally a good Fantastic Four movie. Best parts were the
reveal of Galactus and the final battle
. I agree, Sue Storm shines the most here, followed by Reed, Johnny, and then Ben. Galactus and Silver Surfer were awesome, and you felt the dread everytime the devour of worlds was on the screen. Loved the visuals, kinda felt like a real silver age comic come to life.

I felt that it kinda lacked in action in that besides Sue and Johnny, we really didn't get to see the team showcase more of their powers. Humor didn't hit all the time too. Didn't like the pacing at the start.

Otherwise, a fantastic movie. I'll give it an 8.5/10. Thunderbolts is still my favorite CBM of the year.

I have very mixed feelings. The cast did great job. I'm a fan of Pedro Pascal but was unsure at first how he would as Reed. He is very good. My issues are in the story and it was hard not to compare this to Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).
I feel like that movie did some things better with Silver Surfer and the build up to Galactus. I haven't read the comics much so I don't know how much is straight from them. I didn't like that were only like two proper action scenes. The opening montage doesn't count. I wanted to see Fantastic Four in action more.

9/10 production
10/10 cast
8/10 dialogue
6/10 story

I really came out of this wanting to see everyone involved returning for a better story. I'll leave the why for the spoiler thread.

Liked it!

It doesn't quite reach the heights of some of the best comic runs and stories of the Fantastic Four, but it's (finally) a really solid big screen reboot for the team.

The movie certainly has all the right elements... I just would've liked to see more of them. A little bit o' more zip.

7 - 7.5 / 10

I didnt like it...............I freakin' loved it. Will do a longer Pros and the few Cons later.

Its a rocky start with some uneven pacing in the first 10 to 15 minutes with the origin story expistion dump but once it gets going it soars high, the casting and chemistry is great and the sound and visuals, especially Shalla-Bal and Galactus, are some of the MCUs finest possibly ever. That score as well *chefs kiss*.

No wonder they will be leading Doomsday, I wanted to spend longer with them. Story is simple and predictable at times but its such a fun ride I didnt mind so much by the end. It made me fall in love with Marvel again. 8.5-9/10

Pros
- Great cast with good chemistry between them all but Reed and Sue and Ben and Johnny dynamics really work and are believable in this world.
- Stunning visuals in the main action set pieces and jaw dropping moments
- The retro 50s/60s world is a fun and visually interesting world.
- That score.
- Galactus is perfectly done and genuinely a threat.
- Shalla Bal has some of the best moments of the film and has a bit of depth to her that I didnt expect.
- Comedic moments were on the whole well done and not over used at the big emotional moments.

Cons
- A few iffy VFX shots of Ben and Johnny in some scenes.
- Story is nothing ground breaking but is satisfying at least.
- Ben doesnt get a great deal of an arc compared to the other three.

★★★★☆ Fantastic Four: First Steps

★★★★★ Musical score
★★★★★ Production design
★★★★★ villains
★★★★☆ VFX (★★★★★ by Marvel standards)
★★★★☆ story / script
★★★★☆ heroes

Sue had the big story moments but less screen time than anticipated. Johnny Storm had more screen time than anticipated and he was effective in his moments.

It was nice to have major Marvel villains not be jokes or chumps.

Long story short:
Action 5/5 - specially the space stuff!
Production Design 5/5

Character Developement 0/5 - None of the characters had an arc or barely a scene. It was more a montage of 20sec scenes followed by Action scenes. The most likely for a character developement was Silver Surfer - lol.

Ever since Marvel Studios' house style cohered by the mid-2010s, this might be the one that least adheres to it. It's got jokes, but they're quite muted by MCU standards, and basically never deployed to undercut a dramatic moment (not that I can think of, anyway). And this is one of the sparsest MCU casts I can recall -- there are basically no genuine supporting characters on Earth (H.E.R.B.I.E. has more screentime than Lyonne, Hauser, et al. combined), and considering that Galactus isn't particularly chatty, it's really just the Four and Shalla-Bal (and even she only really interacts with Johnny).

I liked it a lot. It took four tries, but there's finally a good Fantastic Four movie. Great aesthetics, maybe the best outside of James Gunn's trilogy.

Just got out of the theater.

Pedro ain't Reed and I'm never am gonna buy, that he's the smartest man in the MCU. Stretching effect looked good though. Was worried about that after the trailers and clips. Pedro was just miscast and I knew this from the start. I guess rumors were true, that nobody wanted the role except Pedro. I never for a moment thought he's the smartest man in the MCU. Intelligent characters need to be written by intelligent writers. Marvel banking that Pedro will be the lead in the Avengers runs shives down my spine.

Vanessa as Sue was fantastic and I adore her, but her moments with pushing Galactus was too much. I mean he technically is a god, and she had to remind Reed to save their son. Like it's the Sue show in that moment with 3 side characters. All in all I didn't need ten reminders that it's family this and that.

Quinn as Johnny was cool- Chris Evans was slightly better. He could have been a bit more flamboyant. His reasoning with the Silver Surfer was silly.

Thing - Top notch design, probably the best character in the movie. Wish we saw more of him.

Having an absent Norrin Radd is a massive missed opportunity and this silver surfer didn't work for me either. Studio mandates should be banned from seasoned movie productions. Sometimes, especially in his case, they should have just adapted "The coming of Galacuts". Male Silver Surfer was necessary. Her defeating Galactus was too Girlboss for me. Her moments ruined the movie at times for me.

Galactus was first class amazing. What an upgrade from a cloud, but the way he got defeated reduces how powerful he actually is. I mean he can literally create life. The Voice and design was fabulous.

Music was a bit too repetitive and bland at times...did like the musical element of "wonder" at times,

A lot of dialogue falls flat - Script needed a few passes. The 60s setting worked and was a smart idea to place the Team in a different universe. Although I wished they would have shows more of the mechanics of this world. They for sure get an A+ for being visually different compared to all the recent MCU films.

Mid-credit didn't get me hyped for Doomsday and this coming from someone who LOVES Doctor Doom. I mentioned this in another thread, I'm worried the rivalry between Reed and Victor will have zero impact and be disregarded as Feige or Iger will think having Peter meet Doom with Tony's face and all other Avengers will be a shocker for the general audience. I had just hoped for once to have a comic accurate Doom with his heritage, costume and relationships with F4, Wanda etc. Thanos reveal and that grin after Avengers 1 was and is still gold or platinum standard.

I really think this could have been like an 8 Episode limited show. High quality like what the Penguin did for the Reeves Batman universe. Far away from low quality Shows like Ironheart, most of Loki, Daredevil etc.. It definitely better than all previous F4 movies (1994 has a special place in my heart) and much better than Thunderbolts and Superman. I really feel like this movie was edited at the wrong places too. Hey, but a little progress is still progress. All in all 6/10

Loved it. Almost got a ticket to the next showing and I’ve never even thought of doing that before.

I’ll try to keep this brief & chat spoilers in the other threads…

This was a delightful movie; in a lot of ways it feels like a reboot of Rise of the Silver Surfer, but if that’s the comparison, then First Steps was still better across the board.

I like the trim runtime, especially with its relatively straightforward plot. But of course I would have enjoyed a scene here or there to delve further into the family dynamics; the cast really was fantastic. I wouldn’t say I could sense where scenes may have been cut—because I really can’t— but Mole Man is blink-and-you’ll-miss-him. Which is a shame because I like the actor and think the movie had an interesting take on him & Subterranea.

The cast was great; very much enjoyed the MCU Galactus & Shalla-Bal. The story isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s done satisfyingly and the lack of surprise is made up by the film’s tight runtime.

Natasha Lyonne’s character was nice; nothing major but sweet moments with Ben. With Doomsday & Secret Wars and this “reset” Feige is talking about, who knows if we’ll ever see her again but I enjoyed the part she played here.

The film’s opening montage captured, IMO, moreso of what I was originally looking for in this new adaptation with Mad Thinker, Red Ghost, and Mole Man but this was still a good re-telling of Marvel’s First Family. I’m happy to see these four continue on the MCU.

I’ll be rewatching when this hits Disney+ absolutely; though I don’t think this will have me back in theaters like Superman did. Really feel like this movie would have cooked with a Thanksgiving holiday release.
