Are you a ****? Study says it could be in your genes

"B****, how could you cheat on me? Whatever, you're ****ty ass couldn't help it."

Although funny, I find this to be a bit on the horse **** side of things. They try to come up with excuses for messed up behavior all the time now days. Some of it turns out to be true...at times, but this specific topic I can't buy into. People have free will to do what they want and it also can depend on your morals and how you were raised. The monkey see monkey do factor can play into that...to an extent.

You know what else runs in your genes? Diarrhea:o

Yes, people do have free will--but that has nothing to do with the accuracy of this research. That people can choose how they behave does not preclude their genes from predisposing them towards certain behaviours. Of course, they say outright that it's premature to label this as a "cheating gene," as they've only established correlation--not causation.

It seems to me, though, that you've decided that you don't believe this study because you don't like the implications, not because of some contradictory data or incompleteness of the research. I don't really understand that.

I agree with figs.

By nature, aren't we meant to all have sex with multiple partners so we can procreate for the survival of our species? We go against what most species do, we settle for one partner. I'm not disagreeing with the study, but we as a species are intelligent enough to know to not cheat.

It's called taking our queues from our elders. My father is a philandering ******* and while I've come close, doesn't make me one. That's one thing I have to thank him for.

Is there some kind of test that could be administered at a bar perhaps so time won't be wasted on feeble attempts at getting some? :word:

The Toronto Sun is known for spurious reporting of studies that they think will sell newspapers. I'd want to look at the actual study.

It's basically the New York Post, which if I'm not mistaken, is really just a step up from stuff like the National Enquirer.

We went against nature for practical reasons in the past because marriage was used to ensure survival in the wild, form bonds between families, exchange property, etc. Now that parents don't decide who their children will marry, more and more people are willing to move from partner to partner. Just look at the divorce rates.

but those animals only use sex to procreate. humans use it for pleasure etc

Silly ****s! Your cheap promiscuity isn't in your genes. It's in your jeans, along with half of the Minnesota Vikings, you wanton harlot. :o

This reminds me of my ex-boyfriend and don't blame it on his genes.

Very true. Especially the bold part. People often just don't wanna accept responsibility for their actions.

This debate is never ending. '****' is a point of view anyhow. And besides, most men don't have a probably with women being '****ty' if you will (unless she's related to you!); it's other women that knock their fellow females for being sexual free. I guess they see it as a form of competition.

I think it's perfectly fine for them to do this research in case it turns out to be true and accurate Saint, I'm just not buying it at this point into the research. It just seems like another scapegoat in our society for people to blame something else for their screwups. Much like how they dubbed alcoholism a disease instead of it being just something you can get addicted to like everything and anything else you do or take in excess.

I just don't see how genes can actually control you to do something like you've been brainwashed. I can't help but think of it as ridiculous. Sorry to disappoint you Saint.

Yes, I know what you're doing. I responded to exactly this sentiment in my previous post.

They don't, and that's not what the research (or the article) implies at all.

Consider the situation this way: your genes are why you want to have sex in the first place. You choose whether or not to act on that impulse, but the fact that the impulse is there comes from your genes. If your genes can predispose you to have sex (and they do), why would you not think that they might also predispose you to have sex with more partners?

Sorry for repeating myself, I didn't intend to make it sound like you didn't understand what I said.

I agree that genes and instincts give us the impulse to have sex and procreate but isn't that still a choice that you can control? The way I see it is that anyone and everyone can choose to sleep with multiple partners if they want, I just don't see how it can be controlled or altered by your genes is all. I will say that it's pretty interesting though.
