I not seen a thread on the upcoming Armor Wars movie. It started off as a TV series, but was turned into a movie:

Marvel’s Iron Wars to Be Movie As Don Cheadle Disney+ Series Changes Course – The Hollywood Reporter

It's going to feature Jim Rhodes and Riri Williams as the protagonists in an adaption of the Armor Wars story and expand on Rhodes characters.

'Armor Wars': Don Cheadle on "Digging" into Rhodey for the Upcoming Movie

It also might be connected to the Secret Wars show:

How Secret Invasion Can Connect To Marvel's Armor Wars Movie

Really armor wars is a pretty self-contained story in the comics, someone steals Iron Man specs and sells them to every criminal who is willing to pay and Iron Man goes to extreme lengths to prevent his tech from being abused. It didn't need Skrulls or a million other heroes to show up or connections with other unrelated stories. Keep it simple.

I wonder who the villain would be, I feel like the Controller is a major Iron Man villain who hasn't shown up, is pretty creepy, and is definitely a different type of threat.

Controller (Marvel Comics) - Wikipedia

There have been variuos reports of who would be in this, at one time heard Sam Rockwell would reprise his role as Justin Hammer as the original armor wars were started by him stealing stark tech, but recently he seems to be unaware of being in the film, also heard Ri Ri Williams would also be in the film, but again, nothing solid.
My guess or wish would be numerous never on screen Iron Man villains as this is essentially an Iron man story re told with Rhody as the lead not Tony, some fans want Robert Downey Jr back as an AI version of himself, but i think based off recent comments by RDJ that is wishful thinking, i believe no amount of money would get him back, so time will tell.

Supposedly it's due to start filming in London early next year.

I'd be surprised if we don't get a director announcement at Comic-Con in a few weeks.

Hope there's some sort of development, since I keep forgetting that this movie is going to be a thing. Same with Ironheart.
I would be surprised if this still happening. Like I would be surprised if this gets a 2026 release date, before or after Avengers 5. Shang-Chi 2 is probably 2026 as well.

Why can't they just do Doctor Strange 3 instead of Armor Wars?

Because one has nothing to do with the other. They're already by all accounts doing Doctor Strange 3. So there is no Doctor Strange 3 instead of Armor Wars

I'm hoping the rumors of Ultron returning here are true. I've never had a problem with the way he was portrayed in AOU but I wouldn't mind seeing somewhat of a more serious take on him.

I would think they try to tie this into new Cap & Thunderbolts. They are all military/government related street level content. If Ironheart comes out late 2025 maybe this could be early 2026. Feels like they don't know if they want it to be a show or movie anyways.

They seem so non-commital. I think they should have just did it as a series back with Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision or maybe made it for release in 2021 alongside Black Widow. Could have been a good option in those Covid heavy days when everything underperformed so nothing was a "box office flop outright".

Them considering it as a movie is a head scratcher though especially with the title Armor Wars, which sounds like a dystopian movie to be released by SyFy. I just don't see the need for a Rhodey film who was a supporting character for Iron Man for ten years, and never really made a huge impression (imo) to warrant a solo film.

Armor wars (originally called Stark wars) was never about Rhody, it was always an Iron man story, but since Stark is dead and there isnt much in the way of armored heroes in the MCU, Ironheart didnt seem to go over well with audiances, least from what i have heard, but her show seems to keep being pushed back, but I understand why they are wanting to give Don Cheadle a film, much like we have seen with She-Hulk, Falcon and the winter soldier and hawkeye, each new avenger is mourning the passing of Cap, Black widow and in away Armor wars is an attempt to have rhodey come to terms with Tony dying and also deal with his legacy all while making a place for himself in the MCU.

Speaking of Hawkeye (Clint), that one should have been given his own movie.
