Artificial Intelligence-Do We Have A Plan?

I plan to survive by selling everyone out.

My plan for AI, zombies, and giant insects are all the same:

-loaded weapons
-granola bars
-find hot studmuffin to join forces with and become unlikely boyfriend/girlfriend while we save the day.

You'll also need a group of multiracial friends who will get killed off one at a time until it's just you and Tom Hardy left.

I don't have friends. But I have a cat, who can at least tragically seem to die, and then we'll be reunited at the end of the film.

Tom Hardy. Hmmm. Hadn't considered him. I was thinking of a Joe Manganiello look-alike. Or you know. Henry Cavill look alike. :atp: But yeah, Tom Hardy isn't bad either.

actually doing all that 2012 mumbo jumbo and alll that apocalypse stuff was on televsion! they had the "10 ways we will meet our Doom!" i think AI was #6 or #7. So it would seem enough smart people think its a viable threat. if we keep building something that will become smarter than us as we are to roaches and see us that way.. then...

spread butter on us cause we are TOAST!!

AI is a much more viable threat than stuff like zombies and alien invasions. It would be quite reasonable that any AI with some sense of self-preservation would turn hostile towards humanity. It's just not very likely. Plus, we have hammers.

We've all seen Terminator, and we've all seen the progress that we as a society are making on Artificial Intelligence. The Pentagon has a plan for Zombies, do we as a society have a back up plan for an AI uprising? Is there a way to prevent or stop it if it were to happen? What do you all think?

Turn it off. Problem solved.

Anybody remember the war scenes in Animatrix The Second Renaissance?

If AI is ever allowed to create other machines it's going to take more than a hammer to stop them.

It's unlikely it would happen.

To be serious though we'd be dead fairly quickly if they managed to setup some sort of terminator-like facilities to send out drones and whatnot to kill us as they could do a large number of things to make the planet uninhabitable to humans without spending resources like giant robots from Terminator Salvation. Using viruses, bioweapons and radiation that would not affect their circuits they could take down almost all the human race within a few months. I can't imagine it would be difficult for a self aware computer to engineer a sterility plague with what we know about the human body these days. Take out most of the population, use the plague in drones to spray it over large areas and just wait a few years. Problem solved.

The Terminator movies did such a poor job of showing what could have been done in an actual war. It's much cooler than it would have been but they had singular troops trying to hunt down small groups of people. I suppose making everyone die from viruses wouldn't have that *wow* factor we got from the movies. :D

An easy way to take down anyone trying to access your bases would be to spray various chemicals that dissolve organic matter whenever they attack. Just have a few dozen jugs of bleach and open them up on the invaders when they show up, it would be like an evil version of Home Alone.

Unless we had some sort of miniaturized emp devices that wouldn't short themselves out after a single use then there wouldn't be much we could do. We've gotten too good at killing each other. Bullets won't do much against machines and would even be a terrible idea against germ filled drones, we don't really have a portable power source for the really powerful lasers that could take them down and if you go into an area full of radiation or whatever you'd be toast. Besides which you know we'd launch nukes at everything as soon as we realized we would lose so we'd screw ourselves over even more.

It sounds crazy, but id hope the government had a plan for this

Unless there was an embedded shut down code in the original program that they inserted during the creation then I doubt there'd be much we could do about it.

AI would need humans logistically to initiate any major attack.

and why do we assume AI would view humans as vermin? Maybe the AI will be enlightened with such a high IQ.

I say it's because as soon as we become aware of them being able to think for itself it would be self defense on their part since we'd try to kill them.

Because that's what we do.

Would an enlightened sentience just allow polio to continue existence?

Dang, baby girl, when you aim, you aim for the moon, don't you? ;)

Of course, Cavill was the first man to come to mind, but then I reminded there is another poster on the Hype who would challenge us both to ritual combat for his hand. I'd spare you that experience.

And I think you've got the movie functions of cats and dogs confused. Your cat would always be hanging around, but would be hiding most of the time and only run out to scare you during moments of critical suspense, and would distract the other cast members as the evil robot killer gets them from behind.

Of course we don't have a plan, because there are too many theories for what will happen. Some see it as a utopian outcome, and some see it as a dystopian outcome.

I got pretty obsessed with this stuff a few years back, and read a lot of books and interviews on it. If you want to hear some good interviews, check out this guys youtube page. He interviews many of the leading researchers on the development of AI and the singularity. Be warned, though. If you're not into this subject, these interviews will be extremely boring.

well with higher IQs do we care about the feelings of flies? we squash their %^& when they annoy us! history has shown that higher IQs doesnt usually equate enlightenment!America invented the atom bomb and whats the 1st thig they do! drop that ^& on a city!
if something comes along that is waaaaay smarter than us. it will proably see us an annoyance and fly swat our ass!
the other thing to worry about with AI is some body hacking that crap and telling it, that people are its enemy!i was looking at the tv show 60's minutes the other day and saw that all of those missile silos are run off of floppy disks! less chance of somebody hacking that %^&!
i believe like Ferret said long before stupid zombies or something else, the real threat of building something to outhink us is a distinct possibility! and if that happens we are DOOMED!! only i call dibs on "John Connor"

Man the pentagon already has a prototype of this freaking robot dog!
