The Iceman Cometh
X3s Ashmore Picked as Top Male Breakout on Fandango Summer Hot List
May 28, 2006

Shawn Ashmore Interview by Kim Morgan Fandango Film Commentator
X-men co-stars Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore.
Tens of thousands of moviegoers responded to a nationwide survey to determine Fandango's First Summer Hot List, a ranking of stars most likely to draw fans to the movies this summer. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley led the way as the top established stars and Canadian-born actor Shawn Ashmore, best known as Iceman in the X-Men movies, was selected as the top male breakout star. Ashmore talked to Fandangos Kim Morgan about X-Men: The Last Stand and what its like to be a superhero at home.
1. How do you feel about being anointed as the king of The Breakouts on the Fandango Summer Hot List?
Its quite an honor. I knew the new X-Men movie was hotly anticipated, but I didnt know it would be this crazy. It's nice to be recognized by the fans.
2. What's the relationship status between your character, Iceman and Rogue (Anna Paquin) in X-Men: the Last Stand?
As you'll see in the movie, love between two superheroes is as hard as ever, especially when you have trouble touching each other. They're still very much together and working it out.
3. You have a hostile relationship with Pyro (Fire and Ice!). Do you come to blows in The Last Stand?
It is a major showdown and it was very tough to film but I won't go into all the details for those who haven't seen it, as I don't want to give it away.
4. Is there going to be an X4?
It's still too early to tell. I heard that a Fandango survey said that 96% of moviegoers are interested in another X-Men movie -- and that 60% of them said theyd like to see a storyline developed with the younger X-Men characters and so its always rewarding to hear that you have a following.
5. You get to work with Rebecca Romijin, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen (who were both Bond women), Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Olivia Williams--do your friends ever get jealous?
Yes, I think my friends are a little jealous. It's not just that I get to play a superhero in the movies, but I also get to work with great ladies. Its a pretty cool job, but someone has to do it.
6. What does your family think about your mega success?
They think it's great. I'm lucky that my family still treats me like a regular guy and they remind me if I let it get to my head.
7. Do you still have to take out the garbage when you're at home?
Yup, I always take out the garbage and help with the dishes. Even if you're a superhero, some things never change and I like it that way.
8. Describe your ideal moviegoing experience.
It would be watching Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly with Clint Eastwood on the big screen, with a large popcorn and a large water.
9. Describe your worst moviegoing experience.
Im a big Lord of the Rings fan, and Ill never forget going to see The Two Towers in Toronto, near my hometown. I was there by myself, and some crazy homeless person was yelling at me but I stuck it out because I really wanted to see the film.
10. If you could have one mutant ability in real life, what would it be?
Id be very happy to have Icemans powers sometimes I wish I could have the power to freeze people who talk on their cell phones during the movies. There's really nothing like seeing a great film on the big screen with a respectful audience.
