Asia-Pacific News Thread

South Korea's fertility rate, already the world's lowest, continued its dramatic decline in 2023, as women concerned about their career advancement and the financial cost of raising children decided to delay childbirth or to not have babies.

Women want a life, too. Besides, this planet has more than enough humans on it already. :(

Ah yes idol/pop culture, where they have to pretend to be incels to appeal to incels and others who claim personal ownership over your life, because it isn't about 'the music' for them, it's about selling a fantasy.

It was basically the same here in Japan as well...(in fact in all East Asia where the idol culture is strong).

If you're an female idol whether in Japan,Korea, or in China...and you got caught of having a boyfriend, then your career was all but over because the fans will feel "betrayed".

In Japan particularly, there is specifically a rule for every idol here that forbid any of the idol to have any romantic relationship before they graduate, its called Ren'ai kinshi.

for western perspective, I am sure it is weird stuff, but that is considered as a norm especially in countries where idol culture is still thrives strong.

But I agree with you that this culture was basically not about their music, but more about fantasy or what we call it here Mōsō
