Comics Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine thread

One of the reasons I hate SM in other "team" comics or simple team-ups is that he's inevitably played for laughs (the comic relief character) or as the simpering fool ("oh I'm sorry I ate Aunt May's brownies for the homeless" as Wolvie pulls him to his feet).

Well, Meehaul, I think I can see where you're coming from, although I laughed out loud at the
"Just Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-God" comment.

I thought Spidey was used as comic relief in New Avengers too although a lot more dryly. Hopefully Spidey is used differently in the new NA run.

Also, guys, I posted the review prematurely this morning. I flew out the door for a wedding when I should of proofread more carefully. I fixed whatever errors were there though. Later!

I haven't got the issue yet, but being an old school comic reader, I miss the days of Spidey team-up books... and if it has to be Wolverine all the time, so be it...

I typically like Aaron's writing though...

:yay:

The first issue was okay. I think it probably would have been better if it was double sized so they story could've developed better. I'm not to sure where Aaron wants to go with this.

I'm with you TMOB, bring back MTU with Spidey and a rotating team up.

I thought I'd bring this thread back up since some time has gone by now. Have you guys read the first issue yet? I think it works for both fans of the current direction and fans who miss the way it was.

As far as Spidey Team-Ups go, I liked some of them, but not all. I imagine it would be difficult to have an ongoing story line with having to always have a guest appearance. It worked back in the day though, I was introduced to a lot of the MU consequently.

So far Aaron has brought back the scientist in Spidey which I really appreciate.

And did you know that the three issues of Amazing still outsold this #1? I found that interesting.

I like Aaron's use of obscure Marvel villains...

:yay:

I'm loving it actually(especially the Art). Issue 2 wasnt quite as good but you do get more of a reveal. I'm interested to see where it goes.

Marvel just updated their app with the new week of books and the first issue of this was offered for free. I totally sucked that up as I was interested in this but just didn't have the money. God bless digital comics, in this case. I will try to read that this evening and see if this hooks me. I have grown to enjoy a lot of Jason Aaron's writing.

Well, here's my thoughts on #2, let me know what you think if you get the chance.

I enjoyed this as much as the first one, I'm definitely liking this more than ASM currently.

Did you like it? I've grown to like his style too. It definitely compelled me to order Wolverine #1. (I order my comics ahead of time now.)

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I really liked the way Aaron handled both of the characters. He really nailed them. I like how he captured the relationship of Peter and Logan. I would love to get # 2 but my wallet just won't allow it. If things improve with my financial situation I will try to get the trade or back issues.

Im eagerly anticipating the third issue, Mr. Aaron is writing one heck of a story. And Adam Kubert blows me away every time I see his stuff, he needs to be put on ASM to save it from all the mediocre art thats been filling up the title since BND started.

I won't say every artist since Brand New Day has been amazing but you're saying that Marcos Martin and Steve McNiven are mediocre artists?

Phil Jimenez is a mediocre artist?

Just want to get a basis of your standards.

No, not them.
I'm talking Chris Bachalo, Eric Canete, Paul Azaceta, etc. Bachalo especially. Yes we've had some great artists but there's no reason why a book as big as Amazing can't have great artists every month.

And now we're about to get one of the worst.... Ramos...

I like Bachalo :(

On topic, I think the mini has been great, just disappointing that it's bi-monthly

Art is really subjective. I'm digging the art (and story) of this series.

I actually really like both Bachalo and Ramos. I enjoy their style.

Jimenez's art has been pretty serviceable, but I don't like how he draws Spider-Man.
