Avengers: Doomsday General News & Discussion Thread

It could have been done in a 5 minute clip of the same content. It’s more annoying than building hype to some.
Eh. Not really. Nobody was forced to watch the live stream and the actors didn't appear live, except for one. I lost some sleep today, but I could have easily saved it for later if I wanted to.

Its also the first Avengers movie since 2019, so its fine being this extra. 5 hours is nothing, especially they are just starting filming.

It would be shameless fanservice but damn would it be cathartic to see a group shot of Tobey Spider-man standing with the OG X-Men. The one-two punch that began the Marvel revolution.
It'd blow my mind if that shot included Eric Bana's Hulk and the Story FF cast as well.

Reading through this thread and seeing a bunch of people complaining about how the announcement was stretched out is funny. They should have been here 20 years ago when things like that was an event that brought thousands of posters here to discuss it. Times change.

It would have been an article blurb in a trade magazine with a photo.

We got spoiled by an embarrassment of, CBM riches.

I don’t know if these movies are going to be any good and there are a lot of things tempering my expectations for them but seeing Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn back again is going to viscerally transport me back over 20 years into my 11 year old body and I’m not sure I’ll survive the journey.

I wouldn't mind seeing these actors again if they did something meaningful with them, but that's never been the case with a single one of these legacy cameos. It's always gratuitous nostalgia porn, every damn time.

I gotta admit at first when it started I was like this is boring what are they doing. I even made a post about it here in this thread. But honestly I got hooked and watched/followed the entire thing. I ended up enjoying it. It got people talking for hours and was something different.

Sorry to all the nay-sayers but the decision to have a 5 hour live stream of nothing but actor chairs being revealed every 12 minutes, was brilliant! I had a live stream of it, and one of my favorite Youtube channels live stream of it going and I was hooked. Well done, Marvel.

After seeing how the cameos were handled in No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine, I have mixed feelings about who and how they’re bringing characters back. For one, the multiverse saga has been a mess and since we haven’t had an Avengers movie since Endgame, having the audience go through a crash course of over a dozen new characters is going to be overwhelming. Not to mention you’re throwing Doom into the mix with absolutely no build up. I’m also not confident that they’ll have characters from Eternals show up despite their inclusion being essential for a variety of reasons.

They're trying their hardest to make people forget Eternals ever happened!
No sequel plans, no cameos in other films, it took them until Cap 4 to properly acknowledge the thing in the ocean.
Yeah, they're burying Eternals as a one off.

Does anyone know if Trent Opaloch is coming back as DP for the two Avengers movies or is it a new person?

They might revist them at some point. We got to see characters from the incredible Hulk cast return after years offscreen.

Is too bad because the film really isn't that terrible. It's a different flavour in the MCU for sure, but the movie's reputation doesn't reflect it's quality.

No word on who it is yet, but I think Stephen F. Windon would be the more likely pick given he did The Gray Man and The Electric State.

Windon would definitely bring a fresh look to the Avengers movies. I really liked the contrast and lighting Newton Thomas Sigel and Dante Spinotti did for the first three X-men films, would like to see Windon do a bit of that.

I do wonder how much harder it's going to be for Marvel Studios to introduce its own X-Men when they've spent the last five years leaning into nostalgia for the Fox cast.

This seems somewhat short-sighted to me. Choosing immediate satisfaction instead of considering the long game. Maybe I'm wrong.

Can we at least give McKellen a decent costume for a change? :o

Would be great for the returning X-Men to have some nice new costumes.

For the next actors reveal, they should reveal them over the next year as a year- long live stream that no-one goes to sleep for. :o
