Marvel's Avengers comics will be having their first post-Secret Wars crossover storyline in spring 2016. Dubbed Avengers: Standoff!, this crossover is aimed at celebrating the 75th anniversary of Captain America.

The crossover was announced at Marvel's "Iron Man & The Avengers" panel at NYCC. Standoff! revolves around a seemingly idyllic gated community called Pleasant Hill. When the residents of the community rise up in revolt, the Avengers and SHIELD are called upon to keep the peace. That mission is complicated when the dark truth about Pleasant Hill comes to light.

The story will kick off in a one-shot special called Standoff!: Assault on Pleasant Hill Alpha #1 (written by Nick Spencer and drawn by Jesus Saiz) and continue in the various Avengers titles throughout March and April. So far Marvel has confirmed that Sam Wilson: Captain America, All-New, All-Different Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, New Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be involved in the event.

In case you missed it, Marvel also hinted at a possible sequel to 2006's Civil War last week. Standoff! doesn't appear to be that story, but we wouldn't be surprised if this crossover leads into Civil War 2 later in 2016.

Standoff!: Assault on Pleasant Hill Alpha #1 will be released in March 2016.

sounds like a cool crossover thing. To tie into cap's 75th and all. Though i do hate these types of crossovers where story isnt confinded to one book but its part of a story across multi series. More so in the case ugh you dont read/want to get x book but y book you do read will end up apart of the event.

Sounds like I picked a good time to drop monthly comics. Would it have killed them to allow their "all new, all different" books a chance to establish their own voices before forcing them into a crossover?

I'm a bit irked they're doing this this early, but it sounds like a good story. More importantly, I'd like to know where all the people who insisted these "PC-pandering publicity stunt legacy characters" would be gone by the time Civil War came out are now.

Maybe Marvel has finally realized that people don't actually go read comic books after seeing the movies.

personally i rather these crossover/event books to just be a separate book away from the main solo/team books.

wondering if this is when they will revert Steve back into the cap role?

We can only hope
I want the team of Cap and Falcon back, not merged as one dude
