Diesel's Babylon A.D. Back on Track
Source: Variety
March 16, 2007

The Mathieu Kassovitz-directed Babylon A.D., budgeted at $60 million and starring Vin Diesel, has resumed shooting in the Czech Republic after a two-week hiatus to "sort things out," reports Variety.

Producer Ilan Goldman said the difficulties are routine for any big-scale film, including uncooperative weather (including a lack of snow) and problems with set construction. Latter caused the production designer to ankle; a stunt coordinator and the first assistant director were replaced as well.

After a fruitless scouting mission to Iceland, the production still needs to find a location with snow for footage that will take six to eight days to shoot, Goldman said.

Actors including Charlotte Rampling are awaiting word of when their presence will be needed for scenes that should have been shot at the end of February.

Kassovitz, Diesel and co-stars Michelle Yeoh and French actress Melanie Thierry are due on Friday in the Czech city of Ostrava, where they will spend the next week shooting scenes for the futuristic action-thriller based on a cult novel by Maurice Dantec.

In the film, Diesel plays a mercenary hired to escort a young woman (Thierry) who has been genetically tampered with, containing a virus that could destroy the human race. Yeoh plays a nun accompanying the young girl.

Love the mood of that still. I like most of Vin's stuff and i think the cast, director and premise are interesting. So i'll be looking out for this when it eventually hits theaters.

Heres another new pic from the movie.

They're back! Wa wa wee wah! But in City of Ostrava they will film only one 'Bronx-scene'. Here:

(December shoot)

I think Babylon A.D. will be good sci-fi thriller because it'll be in 'Children of Men style' and Children of Men is 2nd best movie of 2006 for me.

Thanks Retro and miltonh for the pics:up: i love the rainy mood of this so far

The premise reminds me a bit of Van Damme's Cyborg. I'm sure it's gonna be way better than that one. I remember when Cyborg first came out and Van Damme was the next big thing. I forced myself to like it though there was almost nothing good about that film except one or two fight sequences and the whole blade in shoe thing. :)

Well, in Ostrava is again snow calamity. I'm not sure if they can filming this week.

Babylon Brouhaha
Diesel pic behind schedule and over-budget.
by Stax

US, April 23, 2007 - The Vin Diesel vehicle Babylon A.D. is "over-budget and three weeks behind schedule," according to the film's producer Alain Goldman. The problems reportedly stem from a "clash of egos" between Diesel and the film's director, Mathieu Kassovitz.

"They were shooting in Prague on sound stages, and were finally kicked out by the sequel to The Chronicles of Narnia. They shut down one time for two weeks because the director had a nervous breakdown," according to an unnamed source for the New York Post's Page Six. "Vin's manager has been to Prague three or four times trying to talk sense into him."

Diesel is said to have been repeatedly late to set and Kassovitz's temperamental nature has also been cited as a major issue. Goldman acknowledged to Page Six that Kassovitz "is not an easy director in terms of temper. Sometimes he has a lot on his shoulders. But it has been a tough schedule and a difficult movie because it involves a lot of action. And people who were saying this about Vin are making false statements."

Another delay was caused by a change of location to Sweden for a skiing sequence after a lack of snow in Eastern Europe. Diesel's reps refused comment to the Post, while Kassovitz's camp denied the report.
