Bands/artists you could never get into..

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! that performance is sheer brilliance! i cant watch that video without getting goseebumps. keith is a god damn madman!

Keith Moon is a always a good watch, but good drumming doth not a good song make, and i thought the songs were rubbish. I know the rumours about the Stones delaying the release because they felt upstaged, or felt they didn't give their best performance due to being knackered, that's what i meant by not understanding the kudos the Who got for that.
I'll watch it again later, but I've seen it a good few times and have always thought the who were rubbish. Whereas the Stones were pretty good.

Same with Pink Floyd. The first 2 albums, with Syd Barret, are the albums I like. Everything else, to me, is boring. I don't hate it and if i'm with someone who likes everything else, i'll put up with it. Just not my cup of tea, i guess. The Barret stuff is just really exciting and interesting and fun, whereas everything else just bores me to tears. To quote Captain Sensible from The Damned, "There are 2 Pink Floyds, the one that made innovative, experimental music and the other band who made music for estate agents." I prefer the former.

I am the same in that I prefer 'The Piper at the gates of Dawn' to anything else Floyd did, but I do like a lot of their later stuff. If you have not heard the bootlegs of the two Barett songs they left off their second album you should try and track them down. they were not left off because they were poor songs, it was because the rest of PF thought they were too personal and disturbing, considering Barrett's mental problems at the time. They're called 'Vegetable Man' and 'Scream thy last scream'.
There are radio session versions, but the studio versions are far superior, so track them down.
Also, Barrett's two solo albums. The Madcap Laughs' and 'Barrett' are just as good and interesting as 'Piper' I would say. the collection of leftover solo songs 'Opel' also has great songs on it.

btw, I heard on the radio the other day that Pink Flooyd and Barrett's long thought lost performance of 'See emily Play' on top of the Pops was recently discovered and will be broadcast at some point. As you might be able to tell I am a big Barrett nut.

The Boomtown Rats and Bob Geldof - if you have never seen a Boomtown rats video, i invite you to track one down and feast your eyes on the man who is unequivocaly the worst, most embaressing frontman rock and roll has ever produced. Geldof is like a Mick Jagger from a world that has never known a single moment of genuine entertainment. An absolute travesty of a performer. If I could get onto youtube i would post one up but i can't access it.
edit: 'I don't like Mondays' is an insincere, exploitative piece of s***, and you can hear that in his pointless little voice.

I swear that I don't like mondays is the only song they have because I've never heard of any other. Geldofs been living off that track for decades now.

a quick list off the top of my head:

journey
foreigner
chicago
boston
styx
rush
aerosmith
queen
prince
U2
elton john
michael jackson
pink floyd
springsteen
grateful dead
stevie ray vaugn

most bands that came out after 75 im more likely to question. i generally consider the 90's a worthless decade for music, and the 00's are even worse.

They're some of my favourites.

I like some 90's stuff:

Jeff Buckley, Soundgarden, STP, Collective Soul, Black Crowes, Gin Blossoms, Spacehog.

Generally speaking, music has sucked since Jeff Buckley died. :yay:

Wow, you sure don't like alot of stuff. :wow: As for the 90's, it's not worthless because it did give us alot of alternative and grunge rock, which I still listen to this day (like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc). You are a harsh music critic imo.

Yeah, their other songs are completely and utterly forgettable, IDLM is indeed the song Geldof has been dining out on. During an NME awards show he was presenting , Russell Brand made a joke to this effect and Geldof did not like it one bit, I'm sure he swore at him or something, can't remember.
If he hadn't gotten involved in Band aid, he would be long forgotten, apart from showing up on one hit wonder lists.

Re: Bands from the 90s. The Screaming Trees made a truly amazing rock album called 'Dust'. I would honestly say it stands up there with the best rock albums of all time, it was their last album and is leaps and bounds ahead of their earlier stuff. Mark Lanegan makes very interesting and great solo albums too.

I think Screaming Trees only have one radio hit in "Nearly Lost You". Is there more?

well see, theres hardly any alternative or grunge that i enjoy. alternative rock? why would i want an alternative to rock? im okay with some grunge, namely nirvana. but for the most part, it doesnt get me off and it means nothing to me. the only band to exist in the 90's that i love entirely are the mummies. they were beyond phenomenal.

harsh critic? no. i just know what i like and i stand behind my tastes.

Like all things [A] this thread is actually about hating something. I propose the title be changed so as to accurately represent the intent of the thread.
Some people "hate" the artists that they're not into. Others are simply indifferent about them.

You like Dylan but can't get into Springsteen? I'm having trouble with that one.

I am not sure but I think that one got noticed because it was on the s/track to that movie 'Singles'.

But, seriously man, if you have been into that whole period of music, get ahold of 'Dust', 10 tracks, all fantastic, the critics all fell over that one when it was released, but it wasn't exactly a big hit. It was their last album. I used to listen to it everyday for a long time.
apart from that I only had a 'best of' that someone has had a loan of for a long time. But, with 'Dust' they took leaps and bounds ahead of their previous stuuf, shame they broke up, but Lanagen does great solo stuff.
Any rock fan should take a listen to Dust. The song 'Sworn and Broken' is so good, 'Make my mind', they're all epic sounding, i just got a little blood rush thinking about that album. I have a copy but it is scratched and jumpy. Need a new one.

Aerosmith. I just don't see the appeal.

I bought a best of and a live album after getting into the song 'Sweet Emotion' that is played at the start of 'Dazed and confused'. I would say there were only 3 songs that i would say were great, Walk this way, Sweet emotion, and that one Eminem sampled for 'sing for the moment', 'Dream on'.
the live album was awful.

Those three songs you mentioned are the only Aerosmith songs I can actually listen to (albeit sporadically), as well as "Back on the Saddle". All of their other stuff is garbage in my opinion. I remember buying the "Pandoras Box" box-set collection and being very disappointed. :csad:

dylan rules, springsteen drools. did i clear that up?

Um, no. Sorry. Let me guess, to you Springsteen is just a second rate Dylan rip-off, who sounds constipated and writes dumb stadium anthems like "Born in the U.S.A."? Because that's the general argument I get from Dylan fans about Springsteen, and it couldn't be more off base.

Sure. Most people like Queen's *big* hits. We Will Rock You. We are the Champions. But if that's all that one listens to, they are missing out on what the band was truly like. And when most people listen to their other works, they decide they don't like it as much as the "massive hits!" One of my favorite Queen albums is The Miracle, which is pretty much slammed by fans of the group, (and non-fans too!) I don't like them because of their popular songs....I like the little obscure ones that the average listener has never heard before.

Having said all that, though, I can really understand people not liking them. But as [A] said, I think those people are missing out. I'm just biased, really! :o:o

My fav song from them are the Highlander ones. Princes of the Universe. Who wants to live forever(beautiful)...Ummm...don't know if this one is Highlander, but I think it was in one of the series blooper reels. 'Don't stop me now'. Their Flash Gordon song is just weird...but nice.

aha shake heartbreak is a fantastic album from kings of leon. i was pretty amazed by it when i first heard it and still enjoy it greatly from beginning to end. everything after that sucks. this new crap their doing now i cant even comprehend it. where the hell did that come from? how they went from one to the other is completely beyond me.

i mean, lets compare something:

Band: Kings of Leon
Album: Aha Shake Heartbreak (2005)
Song: Four Kicks
Lyrics: You with your switchblade posse,
I'll get my guns from the south,
We'll take to the yard like a cockfight
Four kicks whose strutting now.
Video:

Band: Kings of Leon
Album: Only by the Night (2008)
Song: Use Somebody
Lyrics: Someone like you and all you know and how you speak
Countless lovers under cover of the street
You know that I could use somebody
You know that I could use somebody
Someone like you
Video:

now what the hell is that?!
p.s. i hope everyone can appreciate how hard it is for me not to call your mothers worthless ****es whilst you say not good things about the beatles and bob dylan.

Because of the Times is fantastic as well IMHO.

Yeah, actually, 'Back in the saddle' is not bad as well. I forgot that I eventually got into that one.
