Anecedotally, it has been a long time since I've seen my local, preferred theater's parking lot absolutely packed when I drove by this evening. I'm thinking the early weekend estimates for both are going to come up low.

I run a geeky mental health nonprofit...and at this years fundraiser comic con we are doing a Barbie fashion show. So...a local theater invited me out (with models) to promote our event and to give an extra bit of fun factor to the movie's opening weekend.

I say that to say...I have seen this movie several times, for free.
And it is INCREDIBLE.
I love this movie. I ENJOYED it more than I have enjoyed any Marvel or DC film in too long. This is THE geek movie of the summer...and its great that this time its women getting to wave the geek flag (I have seen VERY few boyfriends tagging along...which is a bit strange since so many boyfriends drag their hapless girlfriends along to watch an endless stream of space wizards and angry robot cars). Getting to experience these crowds in waves (as they come in and get pictures taken with our models dressed as Barbie)...it makes me feel the way I did when there were midnight showings, and people would be in costume and just geeking out together with strangers, only this time the costume is whatever pink you have in your closet.
It's been a real blast. So happy that this movie turned out as good as it is.

People love to find things to be outraged about. This movie clearly wasn’t made for them. Anyone who knows anything about Barbie knows the dolls have always been about showing little girls they can be anything they want and not just a housewife.
