I used to think that about these things, but I'm not as sure anymore. Captain America was something people really noticed. It seemed really symbolic, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how Brubaker hoped it would be. Superman's death was much the same way, and came at a similar (and also very different) time in America's life. Spider-Man unmasking had its own resonance in today's culture, and if nothing else, showed up because everyone knows who Spider-Man is.
Maybe more people realize who the Flash is than we thought. He did have that TV show for awhile. And when people think about a fast superhero, they don't usually think Quicksilver.
