i just gotta say one thing about B89. everyone ****s on it cuz it's not true to the mythos of the comics, that burton took liberties with the film, and that nicholson's joker was too likeable.

what i have to say is: take it for what it is, a good movie. sure, all of what i said above is true, but it also has a good story, great actors doing great jobs, a great director who puts his own twist on things at the same time keeping it interesting, and great action.

stop reading too deeply and enjoy it for what it is: a good movie.

It's just a case of fanboys IMO. Look, I love it if a comic book movie is 90 - 95 % true to the books, but I also don't want a generic by the books film that doesn't take any risks and just appeal to overly obsessive nerdy fanboys. Even Batman Begins made some really cool changes to the mythos.

I also hate how everyone pisses on the idea of The Joker killing Batman's parents. I am going to reitterate a point made on imdb. It needed to be done. The relationship between Batman and The Joker, arguably the greatest hero / villian relationship in the history of comics, needed to be fleshed out over the course of one film, because Jack at the time had no interest in returning for a sequel (the crew probably were also put off by his salary demands and request for top billing, hence why he was killed). Creating him by dropping him into the chemicals wasn't enough. The Joker had to be involved in some way in creating him as well ("I made you. You made me first." Get the picture?),

So, yeah, B89 is still awesome.

thanks for your comments, all. i agree with all of it, that a movie has to take risks, and especially the joker part. it put an interesting twist on things.

Amen to that.

Amen bro.

People hating Joker being Wayne's killer? How about Ra's being Bruce mentor?

Begins makes as many changes as B89. Fanboys just had orgasms at a couple of winks.

B Begins is a great movie not a great movie becaise of the faithfulness to the source - that is far to be 100% - but because of the quality of its elements, as in any movie.

Christopher Nolan had the luxury of looking at all these previous Batman incarnations when he was making "Batman Begins". He could go, "All right, we like this, but we could improve on that." Tim Burton was given Adam West throwing "ZAP!" punches and had to change the public's perception of Batman's seriousness.

"Batman" is a great film. The Joker is Batman's most popular nemesis and the backstory of him killing the parents explained just what made this villain so noteworthy in the world of Batman. I hope "Batman Begins 2" can reassure us of the Joker's essential part in the series. He shouldn't just be a villain like Scarecrow, who merely slows down Batman's eventual saving the day. The struggle between Batman and Joker has got to be an epic showdown, and by that I don't mean Batman must kill the Joker. By that I mean the Joker has to be the biggest obstacle Batman ever encounters in crimefighting. I don't know if Nolan will depict that struggle in one movie or two, but Burton accomplished that in '89.

I watch Batman and Returns time to time and they are still well made movies but I love Begins and that does NOT mean I hate Burton Batman movies.

Both the 89 and BB have very different styles. I loved the 89 Batman. Burton put something out that was very influencial to the Batman mytho. If it werent for him, do you think we would have ever see a batman movie with a black suit? He took gotham and made the city look extraordinary. The batmobile was classic. Burton made a great film although it was not too faithful to the souce material.

Batman Begins is possibly my favorite movie of all time. Nolan created something special. I appreciate how the story shows Bruce train, and create the Batman persona from scratch. Its classic. I personally like begins better than the 89 film. They are both great films.

Gracias, Batattack.

Thing is, we all know the Joker has caused so much pain to Batman's character because he killed Robin and he crippled Batgirl. In the darkest part of Batman's morality, he wants to kill the Joker...slowly. Being who he is though, he has self-restraint. In '89, neither sidekicks were even introduced yet, so you go figure. I wonder how Nolan will handle that, and his movie won't have Robin or Batgirl either.

I saw Batman '89 re-released in a nearby theater in my hometown a few months ago, and it's magical, that movie. When you're a kid and you see that movie, you are in Gotham. The opening credits are a vortex that pull you into that world. If I saw Begins at that impressionable age, I would have that same fascination. I like Begins because I can see the layers to it as an adult and see the plot progression, character development.

I really dont want to see robin or batgirl in the nolan movies.

Me either, but after seeing BB I am sure seeing Robin and Batgirl wouldn't be a problem that is if they do more movies, but with that style of BB. I prefer not seeing them however.

Why did batgirl become Batgirl in the first place? what were her motives?

i wish i could see it in the theater again. i remember seeing it the first time but i didn't appreciate it too much cuz i was only 7, going on 8. that would be awesome to see it up there again. i actually fantasize about me being some important person and organizing a 20th anniversary showing in 2009, inviting the stars from all 6 of the major batman movies, and having prince perform songs from the sdtk. one can only dream.

Thats kind of weird lol. Im joking!!! I remember seeing it as a kid. When I got to the theatre, there was a line around the block. We had to wait like 2 hours to get tickets lol. I loved it though and when I got the tape, I must have watched it 1,000,000 times. I think the only movie a I watched more than that was ninja turtles lol.

In the comic, Batgirl was orignally Comissioner Gordon's daughter, Barbara.
In the Batman & Robin film I think she was a relative of Alfred and needed to help Batman and Robin fight Dr Freeze and get the cure for Alfred. God, that film was incredibly bad.

Yeah, Schumacher made it so Batgirl was Alfred niece "Barbara Wilson". lol

I don't either. However, the Joker has to have some horrible deed credited to his name to give his part weight. In Batman '89, it was the murder of Bruce's parents. In the comics, he killed Robbin and confined Barbara to a wheelchair. It's been suggested that he kills Rachel Dawes, but I don't think Nolan would go there. Not that he's too spineless to do it, but you guys don't really believe WB has no say in these movies' plots, do you?

Hell yeah they have say. The studios usually do. If they have robin, let joker kill em off in the first 2 minutes and Ill be happy lol.
