Batman: Earth One

A few of you guys have complained about lack of trunks. It really disturbs me... It's almost like a fan drawing that is trying to dismiss trunks for a movie or something... It actually reminds me of an old drawing BUNK did for TDK movie, but WHILE THIS BOOK SHOULD BE GREAT, why no trunks?

Does anyone feel kind of disappointed?

*facepalm* im not trolling this thread, I've put in valid reasons why i disagree with this particular comics existence. i have a negative opinion on this book, and i have not attacked a single person personally or through deragatory commenting. i just refuse to "like" this book because you all do.

There are a lot of stories that I don't like also, but the trick is to let it be known then forget about it.. Try not to go on and on about it. If you are against this book so much, why are you posting in this thread?

Yeah I miss the trunks too. It just looks all wrong without them. It washes the picture out and, I dunno, just feels all wrong.

From Wonder Con, Geoff Johns:
- "What can you tell us about Earth One?" "Batman: Earth One will be out towards the end of the year," Johns said, then explaining the concept behind Earth One—restarting the mythos of characters from day one, adding that the Earth One Alfred will be gruffer than the classic version of the character, and hate wearing a suit.
-Shedding some light on Batman: Earth One with Gary Frank: "It's so early, I'd hate to spoil the exact process, but I will say this: Every other appearance of Batman he's really very good at what he does. Our Batman is not," Johns said.
- How would you describe the Gotham City in Earth One? "I don't want to spoil it too much," Johns said, "but Gary and I talked a lot about Gotham, and how different it's going to be."

Well this atleast confirms we'll have Batman Earth One this year. <3

Batman's not good at what he does? Curious....

Its pretty much a re-imagining of year one to an extent. Earth one is just showing batman and superman starting out in the early days.

Remember at how much batman stumbled at the begining during year one? probably the same thing here.

problem is, if he doesn't get good fairly qucikly, he will die.

so i'm assuming we will be getting a story in which he gets better as he goes. cos otherwise, i'm not really interested in reading a story about an incompetent batman.

a human batman? certainly. but one that is incompetent is just far too much for my suspension of disbelief to take; he would either die immediately, or not begin his crusade to begin with.

so i'm hoping it's the former, and expect no less

There's a difference between being inexperienced and being incompetent.

Very interesting. Not the best? I'm curius to see how that turns out.

Sooo....is this going to be released around the same time as Superman:Earth One? I sure hope so...I plan on checking both out but Batman takes superiority over Supes for me.

It doesn't seem like it, cause Amazon's already preselling Superman but Batman's nowhere to be found.

Bump.

Is this still happening? I was really excited about this whole project, but I haven't seen any news or information about it or anything.

Superman: Earth One is coming out in a few weeks, so where is Batman?

Gary Frank is a very slow artist. He reported in Comic Con that he had done about 13 pages out of 130.

Actually, I'd love to read a story about an Incompetent Batman. It'd make for some great Elseworld material.

This Batman won't have any idea what he is doing? Maybe it's just Johns way of saying he'll be new at the whole hero thing, but it makes me imagine someone who is roughly trained and idealistic but hasn't really thought things through. I'm actually excited for this and that's why I'm so nervous. It's like the Watchmen movie for me, I loved the GN and then was pumped at first for the movie and my nervousness rose and excitement crashed as it got closer. I've only heard negative comments about Superman Earth One so I'm just a tad worried.

My biggest question about it is that Goeff Johns really isn't much of a Batman fan. Whenever he's used him in his previous works, he's always portrayed Batman as this pompous dick.

That said, that may actually work to the story's advantage. Maybe, with a new version of Batman in his hands, Johns will do something new and innovative with the character.

I'll read it either way. And either way, I'll probably want to send Gary Frank and envelop full of money after seeing his art in it.

Have you guys not read Year One? Batman's a ****** in that in comparison to the Batman in Final Crisis. I want to see a development, so this only sounds good!

Yeah, not sure why there's such apprehension towards Bats being a rookie. It's not a new concept. All the preparation in the world can never prepare someone for an endeavor such as this. It's the most logical choice to have him make several mistakes. And from a creative standpoint, having him start off as non-faulty doesn't leave much room for the character to develop. It's backing yourself to a wall before you even went anywhere.

As already stated we already have a very experienced Batman in print though. A "wet behind the ears" approach is refreshing next to the ultimate prep time dude we read about in the monthlies. My only concern is like CConn's; I really don't like the voice Johns gives Bats.

That being said he was stuck writing a Batman the couple of times he did that was the bat jerk who made me unhappy with the books in the mid 00's. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what he's got when he has a lot more creative freedom and isn't limited by batjerk.

I mean this happened with the Superman one. I haven't really enjoyed Grounded (current arc in SUPERMAN) by JMS I'm bearing with it but it's been a chore. Where as I enjoyed his Earth One tale much better. Partly cause he had more creative freedom. It's evident by how much more comfortable and seamless his writing seemed there in comparison to the monthly.

So we'll see and as for what you said about Supes Earth One my advice is read it yourself at a bookstore for free or something. A review is just another opinion so it's not wise to use them as a measure of what a movie, a music album or book will be like really. If you just go off reviews you could miss out on stuff that you may actually enjoy once you experience them for yourself.
