Batman Live

Don´t forget one thing guys, this is not a musical, it´s an arena show, nobody is singing songs in this one. Doesn´t look that appealing to me, but it might be kinda fun to watch live.

I just watched the trailer. I thought "OMG you have got to be kiding me." I thought "Turn Off THe Dark" looked bad. This looks like the 60's TV show meets Schumacher. It just looks ridiculous.

I've won tickets, through the local newspaper, to go and see the show this coming sunday - so i'll let you know how good/bad it actually is! :cwink:

I'm going to see this a week today, The Batmobile is on show in my local entertainment complex and local newspapers are running articles about it.

something interesting too is they've changed the Batman's costume from the one in the publicity stills, it's now pretty much a exact copy of the Arkham Asylum costume, the joker also looks a bit more creepy with greener hair and a what appears to be a prosthetic on his chin to make it look longer like his comic counter part. the 'smile' make up has also been toned down. Much better in my opinion.

You can see a picture of the suit (there are better pictures of it, that ones not too flattering) here- http://www.citylife.co.uk/news_and_reviews/news/10019693_must_see__batman_live

Well went to see the show this afternoon - turns out it was a full dress rehearsal, with all tickets being either competition winners or charities invited etc.

Anyway, I don't want to give too much away, but it is a really good show - it actually suprised me, and it got a great reception from the whole audience.
They have treated Batman with respect, the story isn't camped up (well except maybe one or two little bits) and the characters are all pretty good with a few exceptions. Firstly Two Face is played like Tommy Lee Jones played him, so I personally didn't like that, however his prosthetic make up looked more like Nolan's Two Face, which was good.
Then we come to the Joker and Harley Quinn - they were not good... they were FANTASTIC - they were both genuinely the best thing in the show. The Joker is the main protaganist as you would expect and he and Harley could have stepped right out of the Animated Series as they are played just like that. The costumes, and make up (in Mr J's case) were great too - nearest thing to a comic accurate Joker you'll probably ever get... in fact all the villains looked great to be honest - I especially liked the Riddler... very Jim Lee!
As B.A. Baracus mentions above the Batsuit is different from the promo shots - body more like the Arkham batman and appears silver, with a mask and cape very like in BB. I think the suit was too 'clunky' and it constricted his movements in the fight scenes IMO. Robin's suit too has changed, for the better thankfully. It now looks more like the Batman Forever version of Robin, but with a few tweaks that made it look a lot better.
So, as for the story - starts with Batman's origin, very nicely done - then onto the Circus where we see the Flying Graysons killed... then from there a series of scenes introducing villains all nicely done. Stage layout is nice and large video screen at the back used to great effect.
There are lots of high wire and circus type stunts throughout, and even a bit of magic - very well choreographed.
So all in all, a very enjoyable show - only one problem was the guy playing Batman got injured in almost the final act of the show and had to be carried off stage. The show resumed about 10 minutes later - with his understudy I guess, but that asside a great show which the audience loved.
If you're a Batfan, well worth going along. :woot:

I don't like BF take but I still probably see this since it's Batman. Thank you for sharing

Just got back from seeing this, I really enjoyed it, it still has some work to do with the fight scenes and pacing issues but overall its a fun ride. It has elements of the comics, BTAS, the Burton-Shumacher films (not as bad as it sounds) and even a little Nolan Batman (I'd say mostly with the cape design on Batman's costume). The music was superb and I would say the Joker (and the Batmobile) stole the show. If I had to complain I'd say that it seems more like its Robin's story than Batman's personally.

I watched this last night with the missus who was equally excited (she bought me the tickets) we were on the front row in a 'Gotham City' seat. That costs around £15 extra. but you don't miss a thing. I read reviews that said it was alot like the Burton movies, personally i don't really see it, for me it was more of a live action version of the animated series fused with Batman Forever.

Now before you dismiss it on the Forever part, It works. It has to be remembered that this is a stage show so some of the performances have to be over the top (as do the costumes). As i mentioned in a earlier post they have changed some elements from the first reveal, Joker now has a prosthetic chin, Batman wears a suit that is clearly a copy of his video game counterpart & robin's costume is more in line with the one seen in Batman Forever (with a clearer 'R' log).

Some interesting things, The woman playing Harley (Poppy Tierney, also had a minor role in Batman Begins) had the animated series voice perfected, it really was bang on, Joker also sounded alot like his Animated counterpart. It was also very cool when everyone got excited as the Batmobile was mentioned then rolled out. (as we decend into the Batcave, we pass the many layers, in those layers on the left is the Forever Batmobile, on the right The Burton Batmobile, nice nod i thought.) The stage also has road names on it, sort of a map of Gotham, Included are R. Kane, Finger, Sprang, West & Robinson.

The show incorporates Magic, Stunts, Circus acts, Pyrotechnics and of course a very cool 100ft screen to bridge the gap between scenes.

I really enjoyed it and from what i could gather so did 99% of people who went, i don't think anyone expected a Nolan stage version, and in all honesty i don't think that'd work on stage. We have to remember this was aimed at the whole family. All in all great fun, and if i had the chance to see it again i would.

Merchandise at the show included Mens, Womens & childrens T shirts, capes for adults and children, Batman Masks (that were sold out) character Keyrings of each main character (Batman was sold out) Cups of each character, Badges (a good guys and bad guys set) Posters and a programme (that's more a book, with a 3d fold out and activity booklet at the back)

If you get a chance to see it, you guys really should. I'll post some pictures soon as i get a chance.

Cheers for the review man  I'm off to see this in Sheffield on the 11th and also have the "Gotham City" seats. Glad to know it's pretty decent.

So I saw this last night at it was AMAZING.

I wasn't really expecting all that much, but really, it's amazing to watch. I was thinking it would be some watered down Batman fights the bat guys thing, but it was an actual proper story and had me gripped the entire way.

I'd say that if you get the chance, go see it. 10/10

I work at Echo Arena in Liverpool, and just wanted to let you all know that if you're booking tickets to our shows (7-11 September) then you should use the promo code BATMOB - that'll put you in a draw to win a press pass to the event, and also a chance to get up close to the new design Batmobile. Click here for the link to the page!

Hope that's of interest!

Just saw this on its first night in London; truly a joy to behold (theres even a sneaky nod to the Bale rant!)

I'm wondering about seeing this show while it's in London. It does look a bit Schumacher-esque to me though with lots of neon lighting, which is what kind of makes me hesitate. I would've rather it looked either like Burton's movies or Nolan's movies. Is the story overcrowded with too many villains? What about Catwoman? How is her costume?

Is it more of a play then, if it's not a musical?

Also, people are talking about posting pictures. Are you actually allowed to do that in the arena? Lots of stage shows or musicals won't allow people to take photos but want you to buy the official brochure instead.

I'd say its more similar in tone to BTAS than the Schumacher films - no surprises that Alan Burnett worked on the script - and it has the "Dark Deco" design of the animated Gotham.

Its basically a loose retelling of Robin's origin, which makes sense given the circus setting.

I'm not sure I can find anyone to go with me, and I don't want to go on my own! :(

I saw this last night, I really liked how Batman & Robin looked(they don't look anything promo we seen it ain't no Joel Schumacher Batman). Two-Face, Joker, Catwoman, Ivy, Riddler, Harley & Scarecrow from Jim Lee's work. Lee is one my favourite to see that come alive was amazing! Two-Face's voice was just great it's what I imagine when I read comics. Bascially go see it it ain't no Burton or Nolan but then I didn't expect anything like that. When comes it to US I suggest Batfans to see it.

The thing I'm not too sure about and maybe not even too happy about is that it looks like Catwoman is presented in a very 60s Batman kind of way - very black and white as a villainness teaming up with Joker, Penguin, the Riddler etc. After all the progress made to both the character and the Batman franchise, it seems as if the 60s template is still being used.

I don't know if it's like that in the actual production, but that's what it looks like from the trailers and promos.
