I am a Frenchwoman currently working on Nolan's Batman and the reactions of Batman fan communities.

Could you please complete this very short survey (even if you are NOT fan of Nolan's work :cwink:).

Batman Survey

Thank you so much :yay:

Done, good luck

Completed.

Please share your findings with us when you finish.

just did the survey, cool. In what capasity do you work for Nolan?

Thank you so much, I've already got 16 replies (of course I need more but it is a good start). :hrt:

I do not work for Nolan, I am a French student studying the evolution of the Batman franchise in film, with a particular focus on Nolan's installments (because of the 9/11, of marketing strategies, of the Internet and the creation of broad and unique fan communities).

I will of course share the results with you.
So far I have 16 replies, I'd like to have between 50 and 100.

EDIT the only queer thing is that it seems Batman&Robin is a favorite here ;)

EDIT 2 And please don't hesitate to talk here on what you thought of this survey, or to elaborate a little on some questions (Nolan against the other Batman movies, Batman fan communities in the US etc)

(Merci !)
What are you doing here ?

AND

Is there any woman in this forum ?

Paullette the reason that Batnan & Robin seems a favourite here is 'cause we don't know if best is 1 or 6 in your survey. I geussed that 6 was the best and 1 worst, but it could just have been the otherway around.

Goodluck with your survey.

Yes, I figured the problem some hours ago :(

What I first thought was that "1" = favorite but as it was not clear it may be best if people do your way from now on:
6 = best (6/6)

Sorry it was not clear enough, ranking questions are not the most important but it's always interesting to have a glimpse on favourite movies (in France Batman fans clearly prefer Returns for example).

The French prefer Batman Returns to The Dark Knight?

Are you guys trying to be edgy or what? :oldrazz:

No, I guessed many fans like Burton's arty Gothic world for Batman.

They generally think it fits the comic books universe better although this is highly arguable.

They do like TDK as well, but tend to prefer Returns when asked to choose only one movie.

I, myself, actually prefer Batman (89) but that makes you outcast among American fanboys nowadays.

Personally I like The Dark Knight the best followed by Batman (89). Personally I'm not a fan of Returns because to me it seems like more of a Burton freak show than an actual Batman movie. Although its redeming quality to me is Pfieffer's Catwoman and Devito's Penguin isnt bad either.

I think I would agree with you; Returns is pretty much a Freak Circus.

Only I'd argue that it fits with the comic books universe: Batman is good because of the hero's repeated interraction with an incredible gallery of villains, who gradually qualify and modify his own persona.

But yeah, in France you get Returns first. And less Fanboys I think have seen the 1966 show.

I would say I like the Batman universe, especially TAS and Batman in film generally speaking. But I would not define myself as a hardcore fangirl, far from it, nor am I particularly interested in other comic books.

The seminar I attend is about series (video games, TV, cinema) in the US. So I thought Batman and its very different adaptations could be food for thought with such a subject.

So far I have gathered 30 replies, I still hope to reach 100 (or 60+).

UP!

I have now 82 replies, which is very satisfying.

Last chance before I close the survey (in a few days) ;)

Here is news from the survey; it was completed by 117 persons. :)

WHO COMPLETED THE SURVEY ?

Well, men mostly (no surprise here)(94%). 30ish male to be more precise living mostly in city centers or in suburbs (12% in the country).

I won't come back on all questions, I just want you to have a global glimpse.

You have a good knowledge of the Batman films since you have all seen the six mainstream movies (from Burton 1989 Batman) and even 60% of you have seen the Martison movie which is quite impressing.

What interested me was that you are not particularly keen on ties-in (26%), i.e. direct merchandising from the movies; in turn you read comics or play related video games which does not come as a surprise. The main point here is that merchandising is not that popular and you seem to prefer a self-made exploration of the franchise.

I do not come back on the other superheroes movies question but roughly there are two categories: those who just saw the oldest ones (Spidey) and those who have seen many many films including some I had not put in my (short) list.

Your favorite movies: as said before, it is very clear that Nolan's installments are the most popular (for 47% of you TDK is the best Batman movie, before BB (34%) In France (for instance) I had a more mixed result between Burton's franchise (Returns) and Nolan's.

The Joker (Fandom on Nolan's Batmans is often Joker-centric, hence this special focus) is described in many ways (sometimes as the self-defined Agent of Chaos). 31% defines him as a nihilist against 28% for terrorist e.g. I guess it would have been slightly different if more girls had answered the question ^^.

As for what you enjoy most in Nolan's movies, the Joker appears to be first (60%), after more conventional items such as acting, setting, ... I know this question was not very clear, I'm very sorry but analyzing individual answers will give me a satisfying result.

Here we go I guess. If you have any question I'd be happy to answer.
Thanks a lot (again !).
