Batman: The Killing Joke animated film is coming

Not enough to fill a 75 minute film. They could add Booster Gold to the film, I suppose.

Wow reading through here with excitement then had to see it got hit with the femanist topic. What I find funny is we are talking about the Killing Joke here. I don't see these people bringing up the feminist topic here bringing it up in The Baywatch movie thread. And we all know why that show was really popular. :gngl:

Lol anyway, back on topic. I'm excited for this. I really enjoyed the Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and Under The Red Hod animated films.

YO and TDKR were pretty close to the source, while UTRH took more liberties. I'm wondering if that's how this will be, or if it'll be like YO and TDKR, with just some extra scenes/story?

Oh, and if you guys have HBO GO, those are all up to stream on there, right now. I may watch TDKR again, it's been a while since I've seen it.

So apparently Conroy is so out of the loop he's not even aware they're making a movie?

That could read that he's not voicing it, not that he doesn't know.

Kevin Conroy is a preference but not having him is not a deal breaker. I liked Robocop I mean Peter Weller in TDKR and who ever voiced Batman in UTRH and Arkham Origins was just fine.

That's true, the tweet just came out like him making a declaration by saying "no Killing Joke movie planned". As opposed to him just saying "I'm not involved".

Some of the response tweets seemed to assume he was declaring there to be no movie as well.

He also posted this at the same time/right before that Tweet though...

My guess is they'll add more of Barbara's relationship with Bruce/Batman.

If it's the traditional animated style, that will likely be the romantic relationship that's been hinted at and shown in other media. If not, probably a bit more into her time as Batgirl and her role as a member of the Bat family.

It would be a huge blow. It's effectively Hamill's last hoo-rah as the character and they're not going to cast his opposite star? That's insane.

I love Conroy and Hamill but honestly their voices just aren't what they used to be. Now obviously that's attributed to age but their voices peaked around 2000ish and to be blunt(as good as he has always been) Conroy was his best in the first 3 seasons of TAS. It seems like he just kind of coasts through the performances now. Especially on Arkham Knight, there are a few instances where he sounds like a robot Terminator I.E. "If you're lying, I'll break the other ones." Not to mention Hamill has been sounding more strained and well... Like Grandpa Joker in later years anyway. I still adore these two as they are most definitely the definitive Batman and Joker but, it wouldn't be a deal breaker to not have them at all. In fact the only big deal breaker for me is the animation style they choose this go round. Sick of seeing the Anime style Batman and I'd like the costumes to be close to the source material.

However back on the Voice Talent, I'd be fine with the following for Batman

Roger Craig Smith: Definitly a good fresh take on Bats and quite underrated.

Bruce Greenwood: IMO a worthy successor to Conroy. Authoritative, raspy and Bad***!

And As far as Jokers go..

John Di'maggio

Michael Emerson

And I suppose Troy Baker but it just feels like listening to someone do a Hamill impression the whole time and it gets distracting. Not to mention his laugh feels forced and it's not great.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters is the only one to have gotten to the levels of Under the Red hood quality. I'm hoping Timm's involvement (and hopefully a non-anime animation style) will have this up there (although im not a fan of the comic)

I don't give a **** what anyone says. If you are doing Killing Joke animated, Hamill and Conroy are ESSENTIAL!

NDA, people. Non-Disclosure agreement.

Conroy is not allowed to acknowledge the movie in any way. In fact, he should have ignored the tweet altogether because his reply was a little strong.

A non-disclosure agreement doesn't mean you have to deny a project exists or that you're aware of it.

99% of celebrities just give the "I can't comment on that right now".

Conroy's response was indeed odd if he is aware of the project. Especially since the project itself is not a secret and has been known publicly for about a year.

Yeah they're not essential. They're just the fan favorites. They could still do a brilliant movie without them.

I want Hamill more than Conroy, but both would be great.

They could, but it would make it unnecessarily difficult for them to accomplish. I'm unaware of Conroy intending to slow down any time soon, so if they deliberately chose to go another way that almost calls for an explanation.

In any case many consider TKJ to be the quintessential Batman/Joker story, so it's only fitting it feature the two performers this generation adores the most in their respective parts. It's the perfect send-off for their careers.

The best things don't often come easily. It would be worth it if they want to make the movie feel totally unique and not recycle actors.

You just said that you're unaware of Conroy slowing down any time soon, so this would not be a send off to his career if he intends to keep voicing Batman afterward. I don't care what Hamill says, because he's retired the Joker at least twice now and still ends up coming back.

I would prefer if Hamill and Conroy do it, but I won't lose any faith in the movie's capability to be great if they don't.

Very much looking forward to seeing this. Is it being screened for folks at Comic-Con?

I think Hamill wants to walk away from the role after this... but if Bruce Timm or Paul Dini called him up with an offer, I think he'd find it very difficult to turn down.

Conroy, on the other hand, won't stop voicing Batman until his phone stops ringing.

So Bale and Ledger?;)
