Does the comics series "Batman" have tpb's or graphic novels?

If so, what is the name of the first one?

Year One
The Long Halloween
Dark Victory
Tales of the Demon
The Killing Joke
A Death in the Family
Knightfall vol. 1-3
Hush vol. 1-2
Under the Hood vol. 1-2

Those aren't all of the TPBs, but they'll get you more or less up todate on the character's history. Then after that you can explore some of the lesser known stuff.

Answer to question 1: Of course.
Answer to question 2: The Dark Knight Archives vol 1. Batman as a series has been going on since 1939 (currently on issue 655). If you want the "true" first one, you gotta go for these reprints.
If you're looking for a starting point, Batman's origin is told in the Year One storyline (which is great). It reprints Batman 404-407.

Also of note: if you don't mind looking, there are a ton of "what is the best batman stories" threads in this very forum.

ok so the dark knights archives volumes will fill me in on the begginning of the series.

How many volumes are there of the dark knights archives and what is the last comic reprinted in the last volume?

i.e. what comic number do the achive volumes stop at?

Hey, wait...didn't I ban you a few years ago? :down

on that batsquad website i couldn't find any of the dark knight archives

wha comic number do i need to get when have read all the dark night archives?

Don't read the Dark Knight archives. They're vastly over priced (200 bucks for 16 issues) and very, very unimportant these days (not in continuity). The list that was given to you by Ccon is your best bet, though I'd add The Man Who Laughed.

Yeah...the only reason I didn't mention that was cause it's nearly impossible to find now.

in addition to the books already mentioned, check out Batman Chronicles Vol. 1. It's got Detective Comics #27-Batman #1, which is 13 issues.

Volume 2 comes out later this month and reprints Detective Comics #39-45, New York World Fair's Comic #2, and Batman 2 & 3.

this collections reprint Detective Comics and Batman issues in chronological order. They're cheaper than the Archive books too.

in which case batman's chronicles may be better for me if they are in chronological order (cause i always get confused)

Is there any other tpb that reprints batman?

It's not like 60 year old stories are sequential. Each is a seperate story for the most part - they aren't normally continuations of each other.

That's becoming more obvious with each of your posts

What, exactly, is it you're wanting? The Chronicles are great if you want it all and are planning on living forever. Volume 2 is coming out soon and it's been close to 2 years since v1 appeared. At that rate, they'll be finished reprinting all Batman / Detective / Shadow / Legends / etc. some time in the 73rd century (give or take).
Here's the lowdown: Batman has been the key player in Detective since issue 27. Detective is currently at issue 822. Batman (the comic) is on issue 655. There are over 200 issues of Legends of the Dark Knight. Gotham Knights ended at around 75. Shadow of the Bat almost got to 100 issues. Batman Family (a late 70s title) ran about 20 issues. Batman was also one of the key players in both World's Finest and The Brave and the Bold for decades. Add in about 500 issues of the various incarnations of JLA, Justice League of America, Justice League, etc.
Oh yeah, and there have been countless one shots, graphic novels, and miniseries.

I am just looking to read some graphic novels/tpb's that will allow me to read about batman. i would like to read about the beginning parts of batman.

Should i therefore read detectives or batman?

Also is 'tec short for detective?

lol

'Tec is short for Detective Comics.

If you want to read about Bats' early years, go for Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, The Man Who Laughs, and Dark Victory.

Just a warning, The Man Who Laughs is pretty hard to find.

okay thanks for all your help

If you want to read the start of Batman and get up to date, read everything from Ccon's list. Forget everything that happened before the mid-eighties. For new readers, who get confused easily, it's safer to just say none of it happened rather than trying to go into an indepth explanation. If you want one, PM me and I'd be happy to provide it.

Hope that helps. :)

thank you for all your very helful replies i think i will buy batman year one
