Batman: Turning Points

Ha. I JUST read this last night. It's OK, not the greatest, but not the worst. The end is really good...it brings the whole thing together.
It shows the relationship between Batman and Gordon grow and the difficulties they endure. You start off just after Year One with Gordon struggling with a personal issue and then trusting Batman with a hostage situation. Then we move on to Gordon dealing with the fact that Batman has a teen side-kick...Dick Grayson. I forget the 3rd story, but the fourth deals with Jim's apparent betrayal by Batman just after the Knightfall saga. And the final story brings the whole thing full circle, so to speak.

Oh, so it's an original book then? I presumed it was like a collection of their finest stories... might get that then.

hmm...i might pick that up (i saw it at hastings in the used section for cheap)

No, it's an original work. I got a 15 TPB collection from ebay for $60 so it came out to be 4 for each. I wouldn't buy it for 10 but that's just me.

I got: Arkham Asylum HC, Year one HC, Year 100, Turning points, Batman: Mad Monk & Monster Men, Hong Kong, Batman: Detective, Batman: Secrets, Batman: Snow, Death in the Family, Batman Chronicles Vol. 2, Batman Black and White 1, 3, and Strange Apparitions.

It was a mini series came out around 2001 I own the individual issues. Officer Down came out shortly after this it was like a set up for that. This is actually one of my favorites from the 00 Batman comics era. Simply because

1) It totally nails the bond between Gordon & Batman better than a lot of comics since then have. This and No Man's Land and as much as I hate to give it any props, Hush are some of the best modern examples to show someone who knows nothing about Batman the respect and friendship between those two.

2) It is one of those rare stories very much like the ones from the 70's that really showcases Batman's effect on Gotham's citizens. That's why that story with the guy from the first issue is brought around full circle by the last issue. Not just Batman though but Gordon as well.

Since I posted the above, I purchased Turning Points and have finished reading it. It's a pretty good story. Gordon and Batman come hand in hand, they both appeared in Gotham at the same time, and experienced pain at the same time, I liked the parallels.
