Not if he was there only as Bruce. If he was there most likely he was in Metropolis on Bruce Wayne business and when he was caught there he just saved the people he could.

That is my theory anyways IF it is a flashback.

That doesn't seem so hard to understand. He's in Metropolis for business, Zod attacks, and Bruce Wayne saves those that he can.

If it is a flashback, that is a perfectly reasonable assumption.

Another possibility that I see correct is... Bruce goes to metropolis as "business" but he was there to find out more about the intentions of the kryptonians but for him is too late and the WE begins to attack and he's in the middle of the attack.

I like this. It would be a strange coincidence if he was simply in Metropolis for a business meeting when the attack started.

Not really. The gap between filming and release is big enough that I will have forgotten anything I have seen so far by the time I sit down in the cinema.
